Job description

JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for performing reviews, evaluations, and inspections for Textron Aviation manufactured aircraft, aircraft parts, articles, and product(s) by issuing domestic and export airworthiness approvals (licenses), Authorized Release Certificates, permits and authorizations, both standard and special, as provided for and in accordance with existing ODA and Production Certificate authorizations. Responsible for developing processes and changes that result in creating a quality conscious environment which shows a reduction of defects and fosters a climate of continuous improvement. Leads, guides, and directs other team members toward achieving a quality focused environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize blueprints, specifications, reports, documents, type design information, and other engineering data and requirements to determine, verify, and assure configuration of aircraft, aircraft parts, articles, and product(s).
  • Communicate with FAA, internal and external customers, foreign regulatory authorities and all levels of supervision on state of condition and/or configuration of aircraft, aircraft parts, articles, and product(s) for purposes of registration and/or certification.
  • Have substantial knowledge of pre and post Airworthiness activities as they may affect the configuration of aircraft, aircraft parts, articles, and product(s).
  • Knowledgeable of applicable FAA regulations, guidance, and acceptable means of compliance for certification of aircraft, aircraft parts, articles, and product(s).
  • Proficiency in business applications for assigned work area(s) making decisions that are impactful to the company and its business goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of aircraft flight operations and related flight release processes and requirements for area(s) assigned.
  • Possess practical working knowledge of Material Review Board (MRB) system functions and activities for managing encountered conditions for non-conforming material and processes.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge of defect reporting system(s), disclosure reporting requirements, and Quality Assurance Bulletin (QAB) system(s) as they relate to assigned work area(s).
  • Able to assume leadership of area with minimal disruption and interface effectively with all levels. Able to make technical, policy and resource decisions autonomously.
  • Represents the organization as the specialist contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external and internal customers.
  • May be required to qualify for additional Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) Function Codes as justified by business needs.

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelors degree required in engineering or related technical field plus 5 years of directly related experience as listed in qualifications below
    • In lieu of degree, Aviation, Business, or related technical degree and 10 years of related experience OR related aviation technology associate's degree or A&P License and 10 years of related experience required
  • Ability to obtain ODA airworthiness function code(s)
  • A&P Certification preferred

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience with projects involving a combination of Flight Releases, certification, conformity, and/or airworthiness approvals similar to those being authorized by Company, ODA, and/or FAA delegated under 14 CFR Part 183 - Representatives of the FAA Administrator.
  • Additional work experience preferred in other Quality support roles of at least 6 months each. (e.g. Inspection, Quality Engineering, Receiving Inspection, NDI Insp., Source Inspection, Supply Chain Management Inspection, Experimental Mfg., and/or Experimental Flight.)
  • Experience working in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment with a minimum of supervision. AS9100 QMS experience, Six Sigma Training, FAA Academy training would be desirable.
  • A demonstrated ability to use drawings, specifications, basic math and technical knowledge and expertise to adequately perform the necessary job duties.
  • The ability to work in a team environment and to effectively communicate with peers, management, and customers.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge of SAP order and planning confirmations that are applicable to flight operations or company conformity system(s) as they relate to assigned work area(s).
  • Must be able to use common software applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
