Job Description

About the Role - You will:


  • Conduct quality assurance inspections and use findings to improve production processes and standards.
  • Investigate quality issues, identify root causes, initiate corrective actions, and verify resolution.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis and structured problem-solving activities.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Production to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues and develop repair/rework instructions.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of non-conforming materials, defects, and inspection results.
  • Escalate relevant defects to Quality Engineering and/or Supplier Quality.
  • Create quality alerts and execute containment activities as needed.
  • Perform inspections of raw materials, inprocess components, and final assemblies to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Ensure proper calibration, validation, and safe operation of inspection equipment.
  • Conduct internal audits of departments and workstations, identifying opportunities for process improvement.
  • Support metric reporting using the Quality Management System and Manufacturing Execution System.
  • Demonstrate thorough understanding of technical components and processes involved in chiller assembly.
  • Perform firstpiece, inprocess, and final inspections on parts and assemblies.
  • Support development and maintenance of Control Plans and quality system documentation.
  • Assist with training and coaching on quality processes, standards, and tools.
  • Compile weekly and monthly reports as required.
  • Lead problem-solving initiatives to improve quality, safety, and Takt attainment.
  • Analyze data to reduce defects, rework, and external failures, and to improve customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure quality and process requirements are clearly understood and consistently followed.
  • Partner with Engineering and Operations to establish capable, effective quality plans and processes.
  • Collect, report, and communicate quality metrics and issues.
  • Conduct process audits and support implementation of improvements.
  • Support the Quality Management System by delivering compliant products and meeting quality objectives.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and requirements.
  • Use precision measurement tools, instruments, and electrical testing equipment (e.g., voltmeters).
  • Participate in MDI meetings and follow Standard Work and Escalation Plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Part of the Quality team supporting Manufacturing and Engineering at our Grand Rapids, MI facility.

Experience and Skills Required:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate degree in a technical field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical and mechanical systems testing or repair.
  • Two years of college/technical school, four years of related experience, or equivalent combination.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing and continuous improvement tools (MDI, Kaizen, 5S, etc.).
  • Proficiency with quality inspection methods and processes.
  • Flexibility with work schedule.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio, etc.).
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and assembly operations.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Skilled in blueprint reading and knowledgeable in GD&T.
  • Basic understanding of compressor-related components and critical features.
