Job description

Howmet Engines is a world-class producer of aero engine and industrial gas turbine components, including airfoils, rings, disks and forgings. We excel in vacuum melted superalloys, machining, performance coatings and hot isostatic pressing for high performance parts that enable the next generation of quieter, more fuel-efficient aero engines and cleaner power generation. Howmet Dover Casting is a world-class supplier of complex, investment-cast turbine airfoils and other components for the aircraft engine and industrial gas turbine industries. Howmet Dover Alloy is a world-class supplier of vacuum and air-melted nickel- and cobalt-based superalloys to aerospace, gas turbine, medical and other high-technology industrial markets.

Howmet Aerospace is currently looking a Quality Technician to join our Howmet Casting located in Dover, New Jersey. 

The work hours for this position are Midnight Shift 11:30 PM-8AM

Training hours will be on 1st  8AM-430PM

Anticipated Pay Range: $26-$30  per hour.  *Pay rates within this range are determined based on various factors including experience, education, certifications, etc.

JOB SUMMARY

This position supports quality, engineering, and manufacturing by developing and monitoring the quality management system and assuring compliance with customer requirements.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES 
  • Expected to assist in the implementation of Howmet Aerospace’s EHS value and policy statement and its accompanying principles.

  • Comply with all department, facility, Corporate and Regulatory EH&S regulations.

  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.

  • Report all job-related illnesses and injuries. (Per employee handbook).

  • Report all Safety, Health & Environmental concerns to your supervisor in a timely manner.

  • Attend all EH&S training.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Job Functions

  • Serve as a Quality Assurance resource in manufacturing to ensure products meet the customer requirements.  This may include but is not limited to the following: visual inspection, data collection and review, gauge operation, and wax pattern review. Operate gauges and other inspection equipment, including but not limited to calipers and pin gauges. 

  • Understand and interpret product criteria, activity instructions, and business operating procedures.  Participate in product criteria and activity instruction revisions to verify product and processes meet customer and quality requirements.   

  • Obtain certification to self-release shipments and act as a designated supplier quality representative (DSQR) for the customers.  Perform shipment audits, assemble documentation, and issue certificate of conformance for product shipping to customers.

  • Undergo training and become a qualified internal auditor.  Conduct audits to ensure processes and systems are in control and meet the requirements of AS9100.

  • Work with cross-functional teams to solve problems and address quality related issues, including scrap, rework, and customer returns.

  • Perform activities related to the non-conforming material control process and comply with area process flow.

  • Proper handling of material identified as scrap, and tracking and facilitating the met cut-up samples per customer met audit requirements. 

  • Responsible for moving product as needed, by operating a mobile cart during shift.

  • Assist with document control / change management, and supplier quality as needed.

  • Perform additional duties as required.

  • This job has frequent internal contact with management, manufacturing, sales and engineering.  External contact includes frequent communication with customers and strong communication skills are needed for this position.


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States.  Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire.      Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

  • High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution.

  • No relocation benefit is offered for this position.      Candidates residing within a 50 miles radius of Dover NJ will only be considered.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2-year Associate’s Degree or equivalent related experience.

  • Knowledge of AS9100.

  • Experience with different quality tools utilized for root cause corrective action problem solving.

  • Proficient computer skills, including word processing and email as well as the basic use of spreadsheets and electronic presentations.

  • Oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to Attain Information - Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.

  • Inspecting Material - Inspecting materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. Evaluate quality of materials or products.

  • Read work orders or other instructions to determine product specifications or materials requirements. 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/EQUIPMENT USED
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to push/pull mobile cart during shift.

  • Flexibility to working in different work areas / locations throughout the plant.
