Knife River is looking for a Quality Control Supervisor to join our team in Magna, UT! This position would be responsible for overseeing daily quality control processes across operations such as aggregates, asphalt, and construction, while managing a team, ensuring compliance with contractual and industry standards, and maintaining professional communication with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Summary:
  • Ability to manage work safely and take action to prevent all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors
  • Responsibility for performance of daily quality control processes in support of all operations (Aggregates, Asphalt, and Construction).
  • Supervise a team of quality control technicians and technical staff.
  • Represent the quality control team professionally when interacting with internal teams, contractors, and inspectors
  • Ensure all material and work performed is in conformance with contractual requirements.
  • Help develop, implement and maintain quality control best practices and procedures for Utah operations.
  • Help verify all material incorporated into the project conforms to all submittals, project specifications and drawings.
  • Understand and execute the required testing procedures in conformance with the contract documents and industry standards.
  • Create/Prepare outgoing correspondence to the clients, subcontractors, and other outside entities, ensuring accuracy, quality and professionalism of work.
  • Monitor, document and track quality control documents including but not limited to quality control plans, daily reports, testing reports and inspection reports.
  • Review all special inspection and material testing performed by third parties.
  • Have availability to Knife River team members to effectuate the delivery of quality products to customers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years' heavy civil experience in a Quality Control capacity.
  • Strong team building and management skills.
  • Strong Knowledge of AASHTO, ASTM, Agency and project standards governing testing methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Suite experience.
  • Must be able to apply moderate complex mathematical equations.
  • Candidate must communicate effectively (listening, speaking writing) and be able to multi-task under pressure and complete tasks by deadlines. The candidate must be self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills, able to maintain positive customer relations and be respectful of others.
  • OSHA 30 preferred
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record that meets company fleet policy requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with estimating and costing program (HCSS/Heavy Job/B.I.).
  • Experience in Quality Control Electronic Programs (Stonemont, etc.).
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent plus higher education or equivalent in related field.
