Job description

POSITION: Welding Quality Control Inspector 1 or 2 - Night Shift
SHIFT: 5:00 pm - 5:30 am, Monday - Thursday (OT Friday/Saturday as needed)
PAY RATE: $21.42-$24+ per hour DOE + $2 shift differential + Full Benefits Package
LOCATION: Lubbock, TX
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for inspecting products to ensure TrueNorth Steel meets quality, contract specifications, and meets external certification standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Follow all company safety and quality requirements.
  • Ensure that all materials and workmanship are completed in accordance with UL, STI, API, AWS, AISC, or City of LA standards, drawings and specifications, as applicable per site.
  • Inspect materials and finished goods to ensure they meet customer requirements and/or contract specifications, including but not limited to checking welds, welding consumables, base material, cut & formed parts, layout work and coatings.
  • General knowledge of coatings inspection including blast and paint inspections.
  • Review welding specs and/or requirements for each project and work with team to solve fabrication challenges.
  • Document and segregate non-conforming fabricated material and workmanship.
  • Review and work with site management & shop supervisor to address remedies for non-conformances and their prevention.
  • Ensure Welding Specification Procedures (WPS) are current and in place for projects, as applicable per site.
  • Ensure all inspection and welding equipment maintains current calibration and verification and pre-qualifications for bolt, as applicable per site.
  • Ensure proper bolting and pre-qualification are completed per contract requirements, as applicable per site.
  • Understand and support company Quality Management Systems.
  • Operate overhead crane safely.
  • Willing to work flexible hours and overtime or weekends as needed.
  • Prompt and dependable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND QUALITIES
  • Complete course requirements for Quality Control Welding Inspectors.
  • Any applicable standards knowledge such as AWS, City of LA, API, UL, or STI.
  • Thorough knowledge of blueprint reading and contract documents, when applicable
  • Excellent math skills
  • Leadership skills to motivate co-workers to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions.
  • Ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to be truthful and be seen as credible in the workplace.
  • Ability to make decisions or take actions to solve a problem or reach a goal.
  • Be dependable and trustworthy.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of three years welding experience, or equivalent training in manufacturing/structural steel, Quality Control combination.
