ABOUT THIS ROLE
As the Hardware Quality Engineering Manager, you will build, scale, and lead a multidisciplinary team of quality engineers, supplier quality personnel, and metrology specialists at our Spanish Fork facility. You will serve as the technical engine for hardware quality-analyzing non-conformance data from incoming, production, and field return inspection teams, leading root-cause investigations, and executing permanent resolutions. Additionally, you will partner with Manufacturing Engineering to validate test methods and screening criteria, architect ISO 9001-compliant lean documentation, and represent Quality in early NPI gate reviews.
This role is based in-office out of our manufacturing facility in Spanish Fork, Utah, with travel required as needed for supplier collaboration and engineering initiatives.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead, mentor, and direct a multidisciplinary team encompassing quality engineering, supplier quality, metrology, and equipment calibration.
  • Action non-conformance data flagged by incoming, in-process, and field return inspection teams, driving root-cause analysis to systematically resolve internal assembly or external component failures.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to validate and sign off on all test methods, inspection criteria, screening processes, and test fixtures across production lines.
  • Direct supplier quality resources to enforce vendor accountability, drive SCARs, and lead supplier quality improvement and development initiatives.
  • Build and maintain ISO 9001-compliant quality documentation, standard operating procedures, and process controls tailored to support a lean manufacturing environment.
  • Drive early Quality involvement during New Product Introduction (NPI), collaborating with Hardware Engineering during stage-gate reviews to ensure product testability, manufacturability, and field reliability.
  • Oversee site metrology practices, First Article Inspections (FAIs), and equipment calibration schedules to guarantee continuous measurement integrity across manufacturing lines.
  • Establish key hardware quality metrics and trend reporting (DPPM, yield loss, field failure Pareto charts) to guide executive operational priorities and continuous improvement goals.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
  • 6+ years of hardware quality, reliability, or manufacturing engineering experience, with at least 2+ years in a direct engineering management or team leadership role.
  • Strong track record of establishing quality documentation and processes aligned with ISO 9001 standards within a lean manufacturing context.
  • Deep technical expertise in Root Cause Analysis methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, DMAIC) applied to electro-mechanical hardware, solar/power systems, custom PCBAs, and vision devices.
  • Proven experience establishing and validating test methods, screening processes, and test equipment fixtures alongside Manufacturing Engineering teams.
  • Experience driving supplier quality, vendor corrective actions, and component qualification through dedicated supplier quality engineering resources.
  • Solid working knowledge of GD&T, metrology equipment, First Article Inspections (FAIs), and calibration program governance.
  • Active experience collaborating with Hardware Engineering teams during early-stage NPI gate reviews to ensure design for quality.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification is preferred.

BENEFITS
We believe you do your best work when your whole life is supported. We invest in our crew's health, families, and financial futures with a benefits package designed to support you inside and outside the office. Full-time benefits include, but not limited to: Comprehensive health, dental and vision coverage, retirement benefits (401k match up to 4%), and flexible PTO.
