Job description

US Farathane Orion is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer for ensuring that plastic injection molded components meet all customer, internal, and regulatory requirements. This role supports production, engineering, and suppliers by applying automotive quality tools, driving corrective actions, and maintaining compliance with IATF 16949, customer-specific requirements, and internal quality standards. Directly working and communicating with OEMs and Tier 1 customers.
US Farathane has been a leading source of plastics manufacturing, supplying the automotive industry for over 40 years. Through highly technical research and development, coupled with a diverse and knowledgeable Management Team and dedicated Associates, US Farathane has continued to grow each year. We provide customers with a wide range of full-service support from black box design concepts to highly engineered composites, TPE's and TPO's as well as specialized extrusion and compression technologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and support compliance with IATF 16949, customer-specific requirements, and internal procedures.
  • Develop and maintain quality systems for projects assigned.
  • Lead and/or participate in implementation and discipline of SPC.
  • Participate in internal, customer, and third-party audits, support corrective action responses.
  • Ensure adherence to Control Plans, PFMEA, and Process Flow Diagrams.
  • Supporting daily manufacturing operations for plastic injection molding processes.
  • Analyze nonconforming material and implement containment actions.
  • Monitor SPC data and identify trends affecting product quality.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Maintenance on process improvements.
  • Lead and support APQP activities for new and existing programs.
  • Prepare and submit PPAP documentation to customers.
  • Ensure dimensional layouts, material certifications, and capability studies meet requirements.
  • Lead structured problem solving using 8D, 5-Why, and Fishbone methodologies.
  • Drive root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions.
  • Support scrap reduction, defect prevention, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the primary quality contact for customer concerns and quality issues.
  • Manage customer complaints, scorecards, and corrective action responses.
  • Support supplier quality activities, including supplier corrective actions and audits.
  • Develop and maintain quality documentation, work instructions, and inspection standards.
  • Track quality KPIs such as PPM, scrap, rework, and customer complaints.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for management and customers.
  • Statistical support including DOE for product and process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or related field (or equivalent 5 years of experience).
  • Minimum 2-5 years of Quality Engineering experience in automotive manufacturing.
  • Strong working knowledge of plastic injection molding processes.
  • Experience with SPC, PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP, and PPAP.
  • Proficiency with root cause analysis and corrective action methodologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Prefer experience in automotive plastics injection molding environments.
  • Customer interface experience with OEMs and/or Tier 1 suppliers.
  • Prefer Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification.
  • Must have experience and/or training in Statistical Process Control, QSB and LPAs.
  • Language Skills- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Reasoning Ability- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Familiarity with customer specific requirements (GM, Ford, etc.).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Work is performed primarily in an automotive plastic injection molding manufacturing environment with regular time spent on the production floor and in quality labs.
  • Exposure with noise, moving machinery, forklifts, temperature variations, plastic resins, and production chemicals typical of injection molding operations.
  • Required to wear appropriate PPE such as safety glasses, and reflecting green "quality" vest.
  • May be exposed to odors, dust, and fumes associated with molding processes and materials.
  • Work schedule is generally day shift, with off shift, weekend, or extended hours required to support production issues, launches, audits or customer concerns.
  • Position requires frequent interaction with production personnel, engineering, maintenance, and management on the shop floor.
  • Occasional travel to customer or supplier locations may be required for audits, launches, or issue resolution.
  • Fast-paced environment with time sensitive decision making to minimize quality risks and production downtime.
  • Work involves a combination of standing, walking, sitting, and computer-based tasks.
