The QA/QC Manager is responsible for leading and managing all Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Food Safety, Regulatory Compliance, and Continuous Improvement activities at the manufacturing facility in Totowa, NJ. As a member of the Site Leadership Team, this position ensures products consistently meet customer, regulatory, and company requirements for safety, legality, quality, and performance. This role manages the QA Manager, QC Supervisor, lab personnel, and quality team members while serving as the primary quality representative for customers, auditors, regulatory agencies, and certification bodies. Additionally, this role partners with Operations, Maintenance, Supply Chain, Sanitation, Commercial and R&D to drive operational excellence, compliance, customer satisfaction, and business growth.

Essential Functions

  • Follow all GMPs, FSMA requirements, food safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies while promoting a strong culture of food safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead and maintain the site's Quality Management System (QMS) and Food Safety Management System (FSMS), ensuring compliance with HACCP, Food Defense, Food Fraud Prevention, allergen management, preventive controls, and applicable regulations.
  • Direct all Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and laboratory activities related to raw materials, in-process production, and finished products.
  • Establish, monitor, and continuously improve quality standards, product specifications, testing methods, and critical process controls.
  • Analyze quality metrics, customer complaints, non-conformances, and process performance data to identify trends and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Serve as the primary quality contact for customers, auditors, certification bodies, and regulatory agencies, ensuring customer requirements and regulatory expectations are met.
  • Lead customer audits, third-party certification audits, and regulatory inspections while maintaining audit readiness and timely closure of findings.
  • Manage customer complaints from investigation through resolution and communicate outcomes effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain quality documentation, records, certifications, policies, procedures, and quality system updates, including BRCGS, HACCP, Halal, Organic, RSPO, and other applicable programs.
  • Partner with Operations and Sanitation to oversee sanitation, environmental monitoring, allergen control, pest management, and cleaning verification activities.
  • Lead process validations, cleaning validations, equipment qualifications, verification activities, and risk assessments to ensure product safety and process capability.
  • Utilize SPC, data analysis, and continuous improvement tools to enhance product quality, operational performance, waste reduction, and cost savings.
  • Support the implementation, optimization, and sustainability of TrakSYS and other manufacturing systems to improve process control, performance measurement, and data visibility.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, Maintenance, R&D, and Commercial teams to support regulatory compliance, customer expectations, and business objectives.
  • Support new product introductions, product transfers, and commercialization activities by ensuring food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements are incorporated into product development and launch processes.
  • Manage supplier non-conformances and ensure timely investigation, corrective actions, and effective closure of supplier-related quality issues.
  • Lead, develop, coach, and evaluate quality team members while ensuring effective training and competency programs across the facility.
  • Establish departmental objectives and KPIs aligned with company goals and support Lean Manufacturing and other operational excellence initiatives.
  • Maintain an active onsite presence and provide leadership across all shifts as required.
  • This is a full-time onsite position requiring flexibility to support off-shift operations, audits, investigations, and critical business needs.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Engineering, Business, or a related field required.
  • 10 years of progressive experience in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, or Food Safety leadership within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with HACCP, GMPs, FSMA, Food Defense, Food Safety, BRCGS, Organic, Halal, RSPO, and SPC programs.
  • Experience leading customer audits, regulatory inspections, and GFSI-recognized certification programs.
  • HACCP and Internal Auditor Certification required.  PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) and Food Defense Certification Preferred.
  • Working knowledge of FDA regulations, food manufacturing quality systems, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, communication, and team development skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and quality management systems.

Working Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, allergens, temperature variations, and food processing operations.
  • Exposure to ingredients and allergens including wheat, milk, soy, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, fish, and shellfish.
  • Required to wear GMP-compliant personal protective equipment, including hair nets, beard nets, hearing protection, and dust masks when necessary.
  • This position is a full-time onsite role and requires flexibility to support off-shift operations, audits, investigations, and emergency quality or food safety situations

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
  • Ability to climb stairs or access elevated platforms as required.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, or moving materials as part of daily activities.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 55 pounds.
  • Capability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, respirators (as needed), and GMP compliant garments.
  • Ability to work in varying temperature conditions (hot, cold, or dusty environments).

Travel Requirements

  • Travel and on-call availability as required.
  • Occasional travel to training sessions, corporate meetings, supplier visits, or other Corbion facilities may be necessary.
  • Travel typically does not exceed 5-10% of the time and is scheduled in advance whenever possible.

Our offer  

The anticipated compensation range for this position is $130,000 to $155,000. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type years of and experience within the industry, education, etc. Please note, Corbion is a multi-state employer, and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations.
