Job description

A Management Trainee is a role where an individual will gain on the job learning experience in various aspects of a manufacturing facility, learning safe operating methods, operational procedures, quality control, production planning, cost control, budgeting, soft skills and leadership skills, with the goal of eventually transitioning into a supervisor, management or other salaried position within the organization. Program advancement is based on an individual’s proficiency and time milestones. Expectation that the Management Trainee will work themselves into other salaried positions within the company as positions open. Training period expected to be 18-24 months.

The Management Trainee can expect training in the following areas:

  • Production: Learn about the process of manufacturing mass timber (Hands on) ; from the grade line, quality, safety, finger joint, planers, press operations, finishing, shipping. Identify bottlenecks and improve production efficiency.
  • Get a feel for how multiple departments across our operations interact and function as one to support the continued growth of our company.

Key responsibilities may include:

  • Production Floor Operations:
    • Assisting in daily production activities on the shop floor, including operating machinery, grading lumber, monitoring quality, finishing and troubleshooting issues. Highlight the opportunity to gain practical experience across various aspects of manufacturing operations.
    • Learning and adhering to safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Performing quality checks on finished products and identifying defects.
    • Maintaining accurate production records and documentation.
    • Learn to proficiently operate at least two machine centers.
  • Spend a minimum of 6 months as a Quality Control Technician
  • To fill in the absence of Leads, or Supervisor, etc.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements within production processes.
    • Analyzing production data to identify trends and potential issues.
    • Participating in lean manufacturing initiatives to optimize workflows. Suggesting process changes to enhance quality and productivity.
  • Project Support:
    • Assisting in the implementation of new production processes or equipment.
    • Gathering data and analyzing results for project evaluation.
    • Contributing to cost reduction initiatives.
    • Providing support to project teams as needed.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration:
    • Working with various departments including production, quality control, safety and materials management to ensure smooth production flow.
    • Communicating effectively with team members and supervisors to address issues and coordinate activities.
  • Leadership Development:
    • Participating in leadership training programs to develop skills in soft skills, problem-solving, decision-making, and team building.
    • Taking on increasing responsibility within the team, potentially leading small projects.
  • Participating in comprehensive training programs covering manufacturing processes, safety procedures, and leadership development.
  • Attending workshops and seminars to enhance technical and soft skills.
