Primary Purpose of the Position

 

The inspector will play an integral role in ensuring quality products that conform to set specifications in a timely, efficient, and safe manner to promote and support the success of Steward Machine Company

Essential Functions / Duties

·               Inspect machined and fabricated weldments to ensure conformance to contract specifications

·               Verify conformance of vendor furnished parts and materials to plans and specifications

·               Work with production to ensure timely inspection functions per hold points, to complete the shop flow of the part(s)

·               Read blueprints and engineering specifications to obtain product information such as specified material surface, dimensional and NDT requirements.

·               Measure dimensions, such as length, height, diameter, and distance, between reference points, using precision instruments.  Knowledge and experience using portable measuring equipment is a plus.  (i.e., FARO, Creaform, Keyence – scanners/trackers)

·               Locate reference points on parts and measure dimensions such as angles, arcs, and radiis

·               Prepare inspection reports and welding logs

·               Prepare dimension inspection reports for various components and assemblies

·               Inspect first run, in-process, and final fabricated parts and assemblies

·               Set up and test equipment to ensure accuracy

·               Test hardness of workpiece surface using hardness testing machine

·               Prepare and maintain calibration records for welding machines and Inspection gages.

·               Prepare and maintain Welder Continuity Logs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

  • Prior experience performing inspections of fabricated weldments
  • Prior experience in heavy construction machining or industry related
  • Self-starter with good customer service skills and a pleasant demeanor, with the ability to maintain a good working relationship with management and co-workers
  • Dexterity, physical strength, and physical stamina
  • Technical skills and ability to understand blueprints, documents, and manuals
  • Attention to detail
  • Verbal and written communication skills

 

Education Requirements or Equivalent Experience

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED or equivalent
  • Nondestructive testing (NDT) experience is a plus
  • One year of technical school or five years of experience in heavy steel fabrication
  • Able to read, write basic math (fractions, decimals, and trigonometry).
  • Able to solve complex technical problems with limited direction

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle or   feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, and smell. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
