Scope of Position

Corning is one of the world's leading innovators in glass, ceramic, and materials science - and quality is at the heart of everything we make. The Quality Lab Technician serves as the technical owner of the Blacksburg Quality Lab, ensuring the accuracy, performance, and continuous improvement of all laboratory equipment and testing procedures that support incoming raw material testing, product lot release, and production support activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical owner of all lab equipment and testing procedures, ensuring accuracy and performance for incoming raw material, outgoing product lot release, and production support testing
  • Lead daily lab equipment control strategies, including maintenance, calibration, and safety oversight
  • Collaborate with Division Quality and Engineering teams to support measurement standardization and implementation of new measurement equipment and protocols
  • Lead review and corrective actions from standards testing; drive root cause analysis and engineering solutions
  • Provide key support to the Measurement System Analysis (MSA) program and lean/continuous improvement initiatives across the lab
  • Support new product and new supplier development laboratory testing protocols
  • Serve as the lab technical representative at physical reviews and provide technical support to internal and external lab customers
  • Troubleshoots complex equipment and measurement issues using structured problem-solving methods
  • Communicates technical findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Manages multiple concurrent lab priorities effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Drives continuous improvement in lab safety, data integrity, and operational efficiency

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Associate's degree and/or 3-5 years of experience in a quality laboratory or manufacturing environment
  • Experience with lab equipment operation, maintenance, and quality testing procedures
  • Proficiency with data collection and analysis tools (e.g., Excel, JMP)

Desired Skills

  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent performance excellence training
  • Experience with Measurement System Analysis (MSA) programs
  • Knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) and statistical troubleshooting methodologies
  • Familiarity with incoming raw material testing and product lot release testing procedures
  • Experience supporting new product development laboratory testing protocols

The range for this position is $69,880.00 - $96,085.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
