Job description

TRCC is headquartered in the heart of Northwest Georgia. TRCC has grown from its roots as a latex supplier to the tufted carpet industry into a global leader in advanced chemical solutions, with a footprint that spans every continent.

We are currently hiring for a 2nd shift Quality Control Lab Technician who performs chemical testing in a laboratory to establish quality control and/or quality assurance for manufactured products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Employee must pass a fitness for duty test, drug screen and submit to a TB test on a post offer employment physical.
  • Perform chemical tests that are simply chemistry in nature that include acid-base titrations (both manual and automated versions), solid and moisture determinations, color comparison testing, pH determination, conductivity, water in sample content measures, density and viscosity measures.
  • Perform other special chemical and physical tests common to water treatment products and lubricant additives manufacturing.
  • Perform instrumental testing such as FTIR, XRF, GC & HPLC chromatography and gel-permeation chromatography (GPC).
  • Electronically log in and label samples.
  • Communication with production staff and notify of test results.
  • Read temperature charts and graphs.
  • Build and maintain a basic understanding of TRCC products and chemistries.
  • Execute laboratory tests with accuracy and precision.
  • Use instruments and other lab test equipment to determine sample/test results.
  • Use all PPE (personal protective equipment) while in laboratories, abide by all safety rules and procedures, and work safely at all times.
  • Read, understand and apply handling cautions as stated in the lab's material Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Work with production personnel to test samples, producing accurate results and reporting in a timely manner.
  • Perform test methods precisely as written and demonstrate great accuracy and precision.
  • Stock sample preparation areas as well as test station cabinets, drawers, and shelves with labware and needed supplies or testing.
  • After testing samples, clean test station and lab equipment where needed, restoring everything to its initial state of cleanliness and readiness.
  • Report any equipment, sample, and/or test issues or difficulties to chemist when running tests.
  • Monitor supply of lab expendables used for lab test work and notify lab chemist (or chemist's designee) when items are in short supply.
  • Perform record keeping on batch tickets, final reports, QF forms, and do other clerical functions as required.
  • Prepare CoAs daily.
  • Organize, manage and disposition the QC lab sample retain areas in the QC and/or grease and lube labs.
  • Work is performed on site, no remote work offered for this position.
  • Follow safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience with SAP preferred.
  • Must be able to be exposed to and smell chemicals used in the testing environment.
  • Must be able to stand and work at a lab bench for long periods of time.
  • Strong experience and knowledge in dealing with chemicals and their hazards.
  • Possess good reading and comprehension skills.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma, required.
  • Associates Degree in a related field, preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting could be required while using a computer or standing while working at the lab bench.
  • Ability to work outside or in a plant environment in uncontrolled temperatures from time to time gathering samples.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
  • Must be able to pass a respirator certification and wear a respirator as necessary.

Work Schedule

  • Monday - Friday, 2nd shift.
  • Overtime is mandatory from time to time based on business need.
  • Work environment is on site. Remote work not offered for this position.

Pay Range

  • $22.00 to $24.00 per hour, based on experience and education level.
