Position Overview
Tilcon Connecticut is seeking a Quality Control Technician to support operations across our quarries, asphalt plants, and paving projects. This position is responsible for performing inspections, testing, and documentation to ensure materials and production meet company standards and contract specifications.
Work locations and schedules are variable and may include overtime, nights, weekends, and travel as required. The role involves both laboratory and field-based responsibilities and may include performing general construction-related duties to support operations.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)
  • Perform quality control inspections, sampling, and testing in both field and laboratory environments.
  • Collect, measure, and test materials including:
    • Aggregates
    • Hot mix asphalt (HMA)
    • Soils
    • Core samples
  • Conduct density testing, mixture testing, and assist with mix design validation.
  • Ensure compliance with contract specifications, quality standards, and testing tolerances.
  • Maintain accurate records, documentation, and databases of test results.
  • Follow established quality control procedures, plans, and guidelines.
  • Communicate test results and quality concerns with plant personnel and field teams.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable standards and procedures
  • Safely operate hand tools and basic testing equipment.
  • Perform general cleanup and maintenance of work areas and equipment.
  • Support general construction or production activities as needed.
  • Comply with all company policies and OSHA/MSHA safety regulations.
  • Properly wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance and work assigned schedules.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and occasionally at heights.
  • Work overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts as required.
  • Assist coworkers and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform all essential duties satisfactorily.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year of quality control, construction, or related experience preferred.
  • Relevant certifications preferred or ability to obtain

Work Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required.
  • Must pass:
    • Pre-employment drug screening
    • Criminal background check
    • "Fit for Work" physical
  • Strong attention to detail and basic math skills required.
  • Basic computer skills (email, spreadsheets, Microsoft Office).
  • Must be willing to:
    • Work irregular hours including nights, weekends, and overtime
    • Travel and work at various project locations
  • Must report to work on time and prepared for the day.
  • Strict adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with coworkers, supervisors, and the public.

  • Ability to operate hand and power tools safely (e.g., shovel, rake, measuring tools).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
