Job Summary

The Quality Control Technician I (QC Tech I) will inspect, measure, test, and analyze various Schluter products and raw material components to verify that requirements are met. This may be done during incoming inspections, for validation of new products, or for investigations of complaints/nonconforming products in the lab or on the shop floor.


Primary Responsibilities

Segregate nonconforming parts and material to prevent their use or distribution; then facilitate the disposition determined 

Perform stock inspections, as needed for complaints or other quality concerns 

Rework nonconforming parts when reasonably feasible, such as re-bagging, re-labeling, re-boxing, and cleaning parts 

Perform dimensional inspections utilizing precision measuring equipment to verify drawing specifications 

Perform finish quality inspections visually and/or verify acceptability with a spectrophotometer and gloss meter 

Release acceptable portion of shipments, the remainder of product not on the NCR, in the ERP system, where applicable 

Identify nonconforming parts and collaborate with Quality Engineers to create Nonconformance Reports (NCR), where necessary 

Verify a certificate of analysis is received with incoming raw materials from suppliers meet respective requirements 

Coordinate incoming shipment priorities for inspections with Receiving, including preliminary shipping damage inspections on trucks, and verifications of quantities and items, where needed 

Communicate quality concerns to Supervisors and Leadership 

Assist Inventory Control Team with various tasks as needed

Assist Leadership with Work Instruction Creation, Documentation, and Audits

Determine acceptability by verifying that test results meet the respective specifications/requirements 

Communicate acceptance status (accept/reject/QC Hold) of inspected goods to Material Handlers to streamline throughput of acceptable goods 

Record data and results accurately in specified forms (paper and electronic) 

Label, organize and track test parts 

Identify the acceptance status (accept/reject QC hold) of physical goods inspected accordingly 

Organize and store test data so it can be easily retrieved when needed 

Provide feedback on improvements for QC Test Procedures 

Assist Quality Team with various tasks as needed for projects or otherwise 

Represent Schluter Systems in a professional, positive, and courteous manner in all matters 


Note: Not all DC locations have labs; quality lab maintenance is location dependent. 


Quality Lab Maintenance: 

Ensure equipment is routinely calibrated, inspected, checked, maintained, and properly stored to ensure its accuracy and fitness for use in a collaboration with QC Tech III and Quality Engineers. 

Maintain general lab supplies; reorder supplies as needed. 

Research and make recommendations for new supplies, where needed. 

Manage inspection items and ensure they're properly labeled and stored. 

Communicate quality concerns to Supervisors, Management, Engineers, or Operators. 

Assist with training new Technicians or other staff in need inspection training. 

Provide feedback on improvements for QC test methods and procedures. 

Assist with First Article Inspections (FAI) of new products and/or suppliers, as needed. 

Assist in identifying and implementing process improvement opportunities 

Requirements

Skills/Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent 

Ability to distinguish between slight color and finish variations

Ability to operate technical measuring equipment, such as electronic gauges, spectrophotometers, gloss meter, and optical comparators

Computer skills and data entry preferred

Good communicator verbally and in writing

Ability to maintain Schluter quality standards

Team player works well with others or can be productive working independently

Detail oriented and well organized

Available to work overtime as required

Reliable with a good work ethic

Ability to multitask and prioritize work loads

Adaptable to changing priorities based on product demand or as needed

2 years' experience within the Quality Assurance/Quality Control field, a plus
