Job description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

•Obtain samples for quality control or requested testing from various products as assigned.
•Perform testing on samples/products following departmental SOPs to meet standards of regulatory agencies.
•Label a variety of blood products and perform release duties as assigned.
•Maintain accurate and complete records acting as the primary reviewer.

 Perform bacterial testing on platelet products.
•Manufacture platelets and pathogen reduced platelets into appropriate configurations according to department procedures.
•Respond to environmental/storage alarms and perform corrective action when necessary.
•Perform required equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control on assigned instrumentations.
•Performs general laboratory maintenance as applicable.
•Perform daily equipment and analyzer maintenance and QC.
•Identify and communicate problems that may adversely affect products. Perform corrections, if applicable, and quarantine when required.
•Applies holds on blood component products, as instructed.
•Perform data entry into BECs.
•Uphold a level of customer service that ensures expectations are met of the end user.

Other Secondary Functions:
•Performs other product manufacturing as trained/assigned.
•General lab cleaning.
•Assist with supply inventory management.
•File documentation for the department.
•Provide recommendations to improve departmental processes.
•On call rotation where applicable.


Education:


Associate's degree as Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT).
OR
Bachelor of Science degree in chemical or biological science.


Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to the requirements above that has supplied the necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to perform the essential functions of the job.

Prior experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
Knowledge:
•Working knowledge of AABB, FDA and OSHA regulations.
•Working knowledge of computerized accounting systems.
•Working knowledge of BECS.
•Knowledge of a variety of software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).

•Cultural competency and the ability to communicate effectively in a culturally sensitive manner with both     individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
•Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with internal and external parties.

Requirements:

Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds. Must also be able to stand for long periods and sit, stand, walk and lift alternately throughout the duration of the shift.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and data entry skills required.

Schedule:

1st shift: Full-Time, Monday - Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm; Includes every third W/E and alternating holidays.

The proposed rate of pay for this position is $20.79/hr.
