Summary
Performs waived, moderate, and high complexity testing according to CLIA '88 guidelines; interprets and reports results for established tests and examinations in all areas of the laboratory: Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Blood Bank and Microbiology. Performs quality control, quality assurance, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Duties may also include clerical tasks and related laboratory services.

Job Title: Medical Technologist (ASCP)/Medical Laboratory Scientist
FULL TIME 3rd SHIFT
The Hospital Laboratory is a specialized department responsible for performing diagnostic testing on patient specimens, including blood, urine, tissue, and other bodily fluids. It plays a critical role in patient care by providing accurate and timely test results that aid in disease diagnosis, treatment planning, and overall health monitoring.
Job Description:
Performs a wide range of technical procedures analyzing blood and various body fluids to expedite the physician's diagnosis and treatment of his patient. Records and documents this data in the lab computer system and in other appropriate areas. Collects blood samples and urine samples for drug screening as needed. Additional responsibilities include performance of quality control and preventative maintenance, specimen processing and patient venipuncture as needed.
  • Independently performs, interprets, validates, and correlates tests as ordered by physicians by following the approved departmental procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agencies.
  • Determines that the test results meet the requirements of the quality control program and if not met, repeats test, and ensures the results are approved for reporting.
  • Expected to utilize complex problem-solving skills in resolving clinical and instrument problems.

  • ENFORCES HOSPITAL POLICIES AND MAINTAINS DEPARTMENT EFFICIENCY AND PROFICIENCY
  • IMAGE QUALITY ASSURANCE
  • QUALITY CONTROL IN THE WORK AREA
  • EXECUTES PATIENT CARE DUTIES

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Baccalaureate degree with MLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP) or MLT (ASCP) and work experience to meet CLIA 88 standards for general supervisor position.
  • Certified or eligible for certification in clinical laboratory science by recognized certifying agencies. Certification must be achieved within one year of hire.
  • Membership in a professional organization is highly desirable but not mandatory.
