Overview

Position Overview

Coordinates and/or performs physical and chemical testing of raw materials, finished product, and stability samples. Supervises chemistry lab personnel, oversees daily work and sample flow schedules, and assists in problem solving. Assists QC Management in problem solving and using and maintaining lab systems related to the management of raw material testing. Reviews and releases raw material reports, provides technical input on requests relating to transfer of raw materials and qualification samples.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Coordinate daily work schedule of analytical test on raw materials, and finished products and stabilities, as required
  • Point person per production to bring samples for analysis. In addition, delegates work and reviews and releases results of test.
  • Supervise chemistry lab personnel and assist in problem solving
  • Assigns or assists in assigning rotational analysis schedule
  • Oversees ordering of chemical supplies, standards and consumables
  • Ensure maintenance files are created as required and are maintained by lab personnel
  • Participates in review and update of current/standard operating procedures when necessary
  • Review performance maintenance for equipment
  • Coordinate and enforce safety rules in chemistry lab
  • Perform annual review of employees
  • Establish testing prorates and interface with production personnel with problem solving and as source of information
  • Develop, promote, and institutionalize best practices and training.
  • Establishes and leads Key Performance Indicators (KPIโ€™s) to measure functional and / or asset base performance and effectiveness. Continually improves business and operative processes to reduce cost and improve compliance.
  • Communicate with all site departments to ensure cooperation and coordination of services. This would include but is not limited to, operations, planning and accounting departments as well as resources from corporate headquarters.
  • Oversee training of personnel on all equipment and methodology and assist in problem solving
  • Go through priority list and assign personnel duties according to priority; At end of shift check status of those assigned duties to see if they have been completed.
  • Serve as a primary technical resource for laboratory personnel
  • Assist management in lab organization (scheduling, technical development, training, and miscellaneous projects) and day to day operations
  • Assist upper management in investigation process (For raw material, finished product and stability) and provide feedback for resolution
  • Ability to function effectively at both strategic and tactical levels
  • Follow cGMPs and SOPs.
  • Responsible for supporting the quality team in all duties related to the lab as directed by the QC management.

Qualifications

The Candidate

Education, Experience, and Licenses:

  • 7 yearsโ€™ experience in a cGMP environment, with a proven track record.
  • BA or BS Degree in Chemistry or related science.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Skilled at analyzing data and summarizing results.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal directions with a high level of accuracy.
  • Must be able to write clear understandable documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills to be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to provide directions to other Chemists.
  • Strong change management skills to challenge the status quo and drive improvements.
  • Proven leadership skills including the ability to coach, assess, develop, motivate, and empower others.
  • Must be able to demonstrate working knowledge of general wet chemistry and analytical procedures.
  • Must have knowledge of how to work safely with and around chemicals and their potential hazards.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Personal Protective Equipment required: lab coat, safety glasses, and gloves.
  • Able to lift up to 35 lbs.
