What is a quality control internship?

A Quality Control Internship is a temporary, entry-level position where students or recent graduates gain hands-on experience in monitoring and ensuring the quality of products or services within a company. Interns typically work under the supervision of quality control professionals, learning to perform inspections, run tests, and document findings. The internship provides valuable exposure to industry standards, quality assurance processes, and regulatory requirements, helping interns develop practical skills for a career in quality management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quality control intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Quality Control Intern, you generally need a background in science or engineering, attention to detail, and familiarity with quality assurance principles, often gained through relevant coursework or a related degree program. Familiarity with laboratory equipment, data analysis software, and quality management systems like ISO standards is typically expected. Strong analytical thinking, effective communication, and a willingness to learn make an intern stand out. These competencies are crucial for ensuring product consistency, identifying defects, and supporting continuous improvement within the organization.

What types of projects or tasks can I expect to work on during a quality control internship?

As a Quality Control Intern, you'll typically assist with inspecting products or materials, conducting laboratory tests, and documenting results to ensure they meet company and regulatory standards. You may help analyze data, support root cause investigations for any defects, and collaborate with production, engineering, or R&D teams to improve processes. Interns often gain hands-on experience with industry-standard equipment and software, and are encouraged to participate in team meetings to understand broader quality initiatives within the organization.

What is the difference between Quality Control Internship vs Quality Assurance Internship?

Job description

Danis is a third-generation, family-owned construction manager and builder with a long history of delivering complex, high-quality projects across healthcare, higher education, commercial, and industrial markets. Built on trust, integrity, and a commitment to people, we take pride in creating spaces that strengthen the communities we serve while providing rewarding careers for those who help us build them.

As a Project Engineer at Danis, you’ll play an integral role in helping deliver high-quality, well-coordinated construction projects from start to finish. You’ll work closely with project managers, superintendents, designers, and subcontractors to ensure every phase of construction runs smoothly—on time, within budget, and according to plan.

This position offers broad exposure to all aspects of the construction process, from field operations to project planning and documentation. At Danis, we’re committed to helping our people build long-term careers. Through Danis University, you’ll have access to training, mentorship, and professional development designed to strengthen your technical skills and prepare you for future leadership opportunities.

What You’ll Do:

Project Planning & Coordination

  • Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent in managing daily administrative and technical project activities.
  • Develop and update project schedules, helping coordinate work among subcontractors, suppliers, and field teams.
  • Participate in constructability reviews and site logistics planning to identify and address potential challenges early.
  • Serve as a communication link between owners, designers, and field personnel, ensuring timely information flow.
  • Support self-perform operations and subcontractor activities by monitoring progress and documentation through project management software.

Quality, Safety & Field Support

  • Verify that work meets design specifications, drawings, and Danis quality standards.
  • Review submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Assist with layout verification and field coordination to resolve design or installation discrepancies.
  • Support implementation of the Danis Safety Program by participating in safety audits, meetings, and pre-installation reviews.
  • Help track inspections, testing, and quality control documentation.

Cost & Documentation Management

  • Help identify, document, and track changes to project scope and budget.
  • Assist with processing submittals, change orders, and purchase orders.
  • Maintain project logs and records, including drawings, submittals, RFIs, and field reports.
  • Participate in project cost reviews and monthly audits.

Collaboration & Relationship Building

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively to keep teams aligned and issues resolved quickly.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Danis with integrity and professionalism on-site and within the industry.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
  • 2–5 years of construction experience (internship or full-time) with a general contractor.
  • Familiarity with construction drawings, specifications, and project management tools.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive, team-oriented mindset and interest in growing your career with Danis.

Working Conditions

You’ll spend time both in the office and on active construction sites. Travel between regional offices may be required. Field work may include exposure to varying weather conditions and typical construction environments.

Physical Demands

Ability to climb ladders and scaffolds, lift up to 50 pounds, and remain on your feet for extended periods. Must have acceptable vision (with correction if necessary) and the ability to safely navigate job sites.
