MMI Industrial & Steel, a leader in structural steel and industrial fabrication, is excited to announce an opening for a Quality Control Inspector. This full-time position is based in our state-of-the-art facility and requires the presence of the successful candidate on-site, as it is not a remote job. The role of the Quality Control Inspector is crucial in maintaining the high standards of quality that MMI is known for. By joining our team, you will play a key role in ensuring that all project components meet stringent quality criteria, align with customer specifications, and uphold our commitment to excellence.

The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for overseeing various stages of production and fabrication, ensuring that all processes meet internal and external quality standards. This position offers a dynamic work environment where each day provides an opportunity to solve new challenges, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and directly impact the success and quality of our projects.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform visual and dimensional inspections of fabricated steel components to ensure precision and compliance with blueprints.
  • Verify that all fabrications meet the American Welding Society (AWS) standards and project-specific requirements.
  • Document and report any non-conformities found during inspections and communicate these issues effectively to the relevant supervisors and production teams.
  • Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance quality processes and reduce potential defects.
  • Maintain detailed records of quality inspections and prepare comprehensive reports on findings and corrective actions taken.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other department heads to resolve quality-related issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of quality control training programs for production staff.
  • Conduct both pre-fabrication and post-fabrication inspections, ensuring all components are up to standard before final assembly and shipping.
  • Utilize various measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to perform accurate inspections.
  • Ensure all quality documentation is complete and accurate for each project, maintaining compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent; further education or certification in quality control, engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a quality control role within the structural steel or industrial fabrication industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of AISC standards, AWS D1.1 and D1.8 codes, and proficient in blueprint reading and interpretation.
  • Proven experience with using inspection tools and implementing quality assurance processes.
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification is highly desirable but not mandatory.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a strong analytical mindset to identify and resolve quality issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of working cohesively with multiple teams and effectively reporting back to management.
  • Basic computer skills for maintaining records and logging inspection results in quality management systems.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.
  • A strong understanding of manufacturing processes, potential defects, and corrective measures.
