Job description

Structural Steel QC Inspector – 1st Shift

Location: Richmond, VA
Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1st Shift; Saturday overtime available
Pay: Starting at $31/hour; higher starting rates may be available based on experience.

Position Summary

We are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Quality Inspector to help verify the quality and accuracy of fabricated steel components in an AISC-certified facility.

This role is responsible for inspecting work throughout the fabrication process, checking materials and dimensions against project requirements, documenting quality issues, and working with production to resolve problems. Experienced senior-level structural steel fitters or fabricators may also be considered.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect fabricated structural steel on a daily basis.
  • Perform both in-process and completed-product quality inspections.
  • Check dimensions, layout, and part placement for accuracy.
  • Compare materials and finished work against shop drawings, fabrication drawings, construction drawings, and project specifications.
  • Identify, record, and follow up on nonconforming work in accordance with AWS D1.1 and D1.5 requirements.
  • Work directly with production personnel to investigate and correct quality concerns.
  • Support efforts to improve fabrication quality, processes, and inspection procedures.
  • Assist with preparation for and participation in annual AISC quality control audits.
  • Maintain accurate quality documentation and communicate inspection findings clearly.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience with structural steel layout and fabrication.
  • Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication practices and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication and construction drawings.
  • Welding certification in AWS D1.1 and/or D1.5 preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify dimensional and fabrication issues.
  • Ability to work effectively with production and quality teams.
Schedule
  • Monday–Friday, 1st Shift
  • Overtime available on Saturdays
