POSITION DESCRIPTION

Job Title Quality Control Technician 1

Reporting Quality Control Manager

Revision Date: March 2025


Duties and Responsibilities:

The Quality Control Technician is responsible to perform quality testing and various laboratory functions of the Quality Control Department.


  1. Ensuring the SAFETY of their work and avoiding incidents and accidents involving equipment, processes, and work areas to which this person is assigned by:

a. Knowing and complying with all company safety policies and procedures.

b. Wearing all prescribed personal protective equipment.

c. Paying close attention to their own and fellow employeesโ€™ work activities to identify and avoid all hazardous behaviors and techniques.

d. Attending all scheduled safety training.

e. Immediately reporting all hazardous conditions to the Safety Manager.

  1. Ensuring personal READINESS to carry out projects and tasks assigned to this person by:

a. Knowing and complying with all attendance policies and procedures.

b. Assuring the cleanliness of equipment and facilities (Good Housekeeping).

c. Seeking and participating in opportunities to build skills and discipline.

d. Carrying out assignments with a willing and positive attitude.

e. Performing quality tests on product in-process and at the final stages and determine product acceptance following established Ascent Test Methods or customer required test methods.

f. Making adjustments to out-of-spec product in production competently and efficiently to conform to written specifications.

g. Assessing incoming raw materials for suitability in production and evaluating questionable raw materials for purchase.

h. Manufacturing quality samples of new or existing products following the Development Chemists or established procedure.

i. Performing calibration procedures on Quality Control laboratory instruments when required.

j. Prepare reagents, standards, hazardous and reactive mixtures as necessary.

k. Maintaining all work order batch sheets and product retains in a numerical filing system.

l. Informing the Q.C. Manager of any discrepancies on a work order.

m. Assisting with physical inventories as directed.

n. Closing Work orders and entering specs on computer system.

o. Entering data into internal and external databases.

p. Coordinating and scheduling finished good shipments as directed.

  1. Ensuring COST expectations are met or exceeded in processes assigned to this person by:

a. Working to maximize productivity and to avoid wasting time.

b. Working to maximize process productivity, avoid mistakes.

  1. Ensuring QUALITY expectations are met or exceeded in processes assigned to this person by: Carefully following all Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and tasks contained in the Quality Management System and initiating all corrective and preventive actions.
    1. Being informed of process/product specifications, and ensuring their work conforms to them.
    2. Operating and handling laboratory and plant equipment in a proper manner to avoid damage/deterioration.
    3. Fully documenting operating data, activities, and events on appropriate forms and records.
    4. Giving professional care to the appearance of all customer reports/paperwork, housekeeping and any other item that represents Ascent Chemicals to the customer or regulatory agencies.

e. Reporting without delay any inaccuracies or problems with written procedures, forms, and records.

5. Ensuring TIMELINESS of activities assigned to this person by:

    1. Knowing and following assigned priorities.
    2. Meeting or beating schedules for completion of processes and tasks.
    3. Reporting customer problems or schedule deviations without unnecessary delay.

6. Performing other duties as assigned.


Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Physical Requirements:

The Quality Control Technician should have:

ยŸ Operate laboratory and general office equipment

The working environment will be reasonably clean and comfortable; however, wet and dusty conditions will be encountered at times, as will exposure to low temperature in winter and high temperatures in summer.
