Position Overview

Are you an analytical, hands-on quality professional looking to make an impact in the automotive industry? As Quality Control Manager, you will ensure products consistently meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer expectations.

You will oversee first-article inspections, AQL sampling, laboratory testing, warranty investigations, and nonconforming inventory while leading one direct report, the Laboratory & Warranty Technician. Working closely with Engineering, Product Management, Supply Chain, Customer Service, and suppliers, you'll drive root-cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous quality improvements to prevent repeat failures and improve product performance.


Key Responsibilities


Inspection & Laboratory Management
  • Lead first-article inspections and AQL sampling to verify products meet engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
  • Develop and maintain inspection schedules aligned with operational priorities.
  • Manage daily laboratory operations, testing priorities, workflow, and equipment availability.
  • Ensure laboratory equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and repaired as needed.
  • Support Engineering with dimensional inspections, testing, product comparisons, and technical evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, measurements, photographs, and test results within the ERP or Quality Management System.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Lead, mentor, and develop one Laboratory & Warranty Technician responsible for inspections, testing, warranty evaluations, and documentation.
  • Prioritize workload, assign inspections and investigations, and ensure timely completion.
  • Train team members on inspection methods, measurement tools, laboratory equipment, and documentation.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product Management, Customer Service, Supply Chain, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Work with Engineering and Supply Chain to ensure repair components, replacement parts, tools, and instructions are available when needed.
Quality Analysis & Continuous Improvement
  • Investigate customer complaints, warranty claims, installation concerns, and returned products to determine root causes.
  • Analyze warranty trends by product, supplier, customer, and failure type.
  • Coordinate Corrective Action Reports (CARs), including containment, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, and verification.
  • Review and determine disposition of nonconforming inventory, including repair, rework, quarantine, return-to-vendor, or acceptance.
  • Monitor repair and rework activities to ensure compliance with approved procedures.
  • Verify corrective actions are effective in reducing repeat failures and warranty claims.
  • Analyze quality data, identify trends, prepare reports, and recommend improvements to Engineering Management.

Requirements

QualificationsRequired
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Quality, Automotive Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in quality control, dimensional inspection, laboratory testing, warranty analysis, automotive manufacturing, automotive aftermarket, industrial products, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating technicians or inspectors.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Technical Skills
  • Knowledge of dimensional metrology and GD&T.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, specifications, and inspection requirements.
  • Experience using precision measuring tools, hand tools, and laboratory equipment.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Supply Chain, Product Management, Customer Service, and suppliers.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to safely lift and inspect automotive components up to 50 lbs. with assistance or lifting equipment when needed.
  • Fully on-site position in Greer, SC with occasional travel to other DMA facilities or supplier locations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience managing laboratory, warranty, or quality personnel.
  • Automotive aftermarket or manufacturing experience.
  • Knowledge of quality tools including 8D, CAR, AQL, Control Plans, MSA, DOE, and FMEA.
  • Experience with ERP or Quality Management Systems.
  • Familiarity with automotive industry standards and customer requirements.
  • Experience with warranty analysis, failure analysis, and quality reporting.
  • Automotive diagnostic, repair, or military technical experience.
  • Experience working directly with suppliers on quality improvements and corrective actions.
