A quality control inspector makes sure that production workers make products according to prescribed guidelines and specifications. Quality control inspectors perform tests to ensure that products meet quality standards, report their findings, then make recommendations for improvement. Quality control inspectors achieve this by using relevant tools, and technical knowledge along with strong attention to detail and analytical skills to perform these duties.
| Aspect | Quality Control Inspector | Quality Assurance Technician |
|---|---|---|
| Certifications | Often requires industry-specific certifications (e.g., ASQ certifications) | Similar certifications may be preferred, but focus is on process compliance |
| Work Environment | Inspecting products or materials on production lines or in labs | Developing and implementing quality processes in manufacturing or service settings |
| Employer & Industry Usage | Common in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive industries | Used in manufacturing, healthcare, and service industries |
| Search & Comparison Intent | People compare roles related to product inspection and quality checks | People look for roles focused on quality systems and process improvement |
The main difference is that Quality Control Inspectors focus on inspecting and testing products to ensure quality standards are met, while Quality Assurance Technicians develop and maintain quality systems and processes to prevent defects. Both roles are essential in quality management but serve different functions within the industry.

Assist the Quality Control Officer and Manager as required.
Conduct post-work audits and observe active construction work, recommending changes when necessary.
Recommend corrective action plans and schedules for non-compliant work.
Prepare, maintain, update, and organize all relevant contract records and QC documentation.
Communicate proactively with project management and superintendents regarding issues, opportunities, and changes.
Produce and update forms, documents, and databases using Microsoft Office applications.
Perform periodic site inspections, physical material testing, and operations monitoring.

Identify non-conformities, track deficiencies, and coordinate corrective actions with project managers and engineers.
Verify compliance with drawings, specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety protocols.
Coordinate with clients, suppliers, subcontractors, and testing labs to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Manage submittal control, review, tracking, and material approvals.
Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections, including witness/hold points.
Verify acceptance criteria, ITP compliance, and test report accuracy.
Manage NCR issuance, deficiency logs, and closure tracking.
Interface with QA Manager, Owner/Client QC, and subcontractor QC teams.
Perform quality-related safety observations and verify compliance with procedures.
Complete other tasks as required.
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma.
3–7 years of experience in civil construction quality control, heavy civil infrastructure, or related field.
