Role Synopsis:
The Quality Lead Technician is responsible for QA/QC activities and must possess advanced quality laboratory skills. In addition, this role will play an integral part in plant formulation, technical oversight, equipment maintenance, training, and non-routine analyses and troubleshooting.
The lead technician will champion a culture of quality and compliance in the laboratory while promoting efficient processes and product quality through active collaboration with multi-disciplined teams. This role is critical in safeguarding data and product integrity, supporting continuous improvement, and enabling efficient plant operations through timely and reliable analytical support.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Perform advanced laboratory testing on raw materials and finished goods in compliance to standards and customer specifications.

  • Meet with technical teams to support new product introductions and blend modifications.

  • Troubleshoot and support complex testing or equipment issues.

  • Performs routine calibration, maintenance of laboratory instruments and monitor instrument health as required for normal lab operations.

  • Provides guidance on in-process adjustments to blending and manufacturing when needed in a timely matter.

  • Follow all procedures per the ISO 9001/IATF 16949 standards and Plant Operating Procedures.

  • Verifies and validates SAP Blend Orders readiness in regards to formula, components, and testing parameters and adjustments needed.

  • Records and maintains records for blend analyses and monitors resulting data trends.

  • Performs routine and special process, product, and raw material analyses using chemical, physical and instrumental methods.

  • Actively train laboratory staff on new requirements, procedures, instrumentation and assess training gaps.

  • Analyze, troubleshoot and problem solve where needed.

  • Supports analysis of samples as part of GAGE R&R and SPC.

  • Supports the laboratory's ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 quality management system and audits.

  • Understands and supports the day-to-day operational and the longer-term strategic goals of the plant and laboratory.

  • Contributes effectively to the team, meeting both team and personal objectives as set.

  • Immediately communicates out of specification test results and assists in resolving internal non-conformances, communicating with technology team as needed.

  • Assists in isolation of nonconforming product and coordinates activities necessary to resolve product quality or operating issues to resume production of high-quality product. Coordinate activities to promptly rework nonconforming product.

  • Practices site safety and environmental standards and follows local area policies.

  • Conduct Quality Audits during production runs. Records data as required. Assist in trials of new products, raw materials and/or packaging materials. Perform visual packaging line inspections at required intervals.

  • Be familiar with equipment operations; be familiar with Process controls, process flows, and chemistry with additives.

  • Must support and help manage HSSE goals and initiatives. Promptly identify, address and/or report issues related to HSSE issues. Participates safety analysis and has good work area housekeeping.

  • Work Ethic: Attendance to be excellent, requires little supervision, self-starter, and have urgency and passion for safety, quality, production and maintenance.

Essential Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) related discipline or experience in lubricants, petroleum, chemicals, or related industry required.

  • ISO 9001; IATF 16949 Experience desired.

  • Strong PC Skills, Working knowledge of SAP & Standard MS Office Software desired.
