Job description

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

This position is responsible for providing professional metallurgical quality engineering service
and technical support involving technical quality, in-process quality, and customer service. The
position supports the NAS total quality program to improve cost, productivity, yields and customer requirements. QC Engineers support both the Flat Products Group and the Long Products Groups focusing on both internal quality and external quality. The QC Engineer will be involved in all or a portion of the listed Essential Job Functions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • 1. Provide metallurgical and technical support for all areas of NAS.
  • 2. Develops, defines and implements standardized practices to ensure consistent and
    repetitive process routing for maximum quality, productivity, and yields.
  • 3. Operates within NAS quality standard, relevant industry standards such as ASTM,
    ASME, AMS; and customer product specifications.
  • 4. Review daily internal quality. Areas of focus could include Melt Shop, Hot Rolling, or Cold Rolling. All areas integrated within these processing facilities are within the scope of responsibility for the Engineer. Assist in determining appropriate corrective actions.
  • 5. Studies and researches customer product needs to insure the proper application of
    products to meet the specific customer end use requirements and maximize customer relationships.
  • 6. Communicates customer requirements in order to maximize understanding of customer's needs and increase customer service through fewer errors, claims or complaints. This includes identifying critical needs of the customer, communicating these critical needs to the proper section within the organization, and monitoring and controlling the critical needs during the various stages of production.
  • 7. Customer technical support involving new products or product sold to the customer. This includes customer visits for establishing customer specification requirements; follow up visits for product evaluation, and visits for evaluating claims and complaints.
  • 8. Looks for ways to improve and promote quality, demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness.
  • 9. Prioritizes and plans work activities; uses time efficiently.
  • 10. Develop project plans, co-ordinate projects, communicate changes and progress, complete projects within time and budget, manages project team activities.
  • 11. Adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands, changes approach or method to best fit the situation, able to deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected delays.
  • 12. Follows instructions, responds to management direction, takes responsibility for own action, keeps commitments, completes tasks on time or notifies appropriate person with an alternative action plan.
  • 13. Displays original thinking and creativity, meet changes with resourcefulness, generate suggestions for improving work, develop innovative approaches and ideas, present ideas and information in a manner that gets others' attention.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of B.S. Metallurgical / Material Science / Mechanical Engineering

PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • 20. 7. Must follow all Environmental Policies and Regulations
  • 21. 8. Maintain a clean and safe work area
