About the role

Role Description:

We are seeking a QA/QC Engineer with a structural engineering background to join our Plant Support Engineering team. This role combines governance-level quality oversight with hands-on field engagement at our 30+ Thermomechanical Treatment facilities. The ideal candidate will bring subject matter expertise in structural repair methods, contractor/vendor oversight, and quality assurance processes. They will serve as a key interface between corporate engineering, site teams, contractors, and internal certified weld inspectors to ensure that structural repairs are executed safely, effectively, and in compliance with Reworld and Industry standards. Over time, the role offers the potential opportunity to expand into broader QA/QC responsibilities across multiple engineering/maintenance disciplines, including the chance to help build and lead a cross-functional quality team.

Key responsibilities, deliverables and expectations:

Governance & Oversight

  • Develop and Implement Standard QA/QC work processes.
  • Support the development and enforcement of QA/QC processes for structural repair activities across multiple facilities.
  • Provide technical reviews of repair scopes, drawings, contractor procedures, and engineering packages to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
  • Participate in risk assessments and contribute to structural integrity management strategies.

Field Support & Contractor Oversight

  • Travel to facilities to monitor ongoing structural repair work, ensuring contractors adhere to specifications, codes, and quality requirements.
  • Conduct field inspections and collaborate closely with internal or external certified weld inspectors to validate repair quality and compliance.
  • Act as the technical point of contact for site teams and contractors during repair execution, where required.

Quality Assurance & Risk Analysis

  • Perform QA/QC reviews, audits, and verifications for both planned and emergent repair activities.
  • Identify structural risks and nonconformances, propose corrective actions, and track resolution.
  • Support the development of quality documentation, inspection checklists, and acceptance criteria.

Collaboration & Reporting

  • Coordinate across engineering, operations, safety, and maintenance groups to ensure alignment on repair priorities, quality standards and cost budgets.
  • Interface with 3rd party Engineering firms, contractors and vendors to clarify scope requirements and address quality issues during/before execution.
  • Deliver clear, actionable QA/QC reports and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Co-ordinate with Outage management and field services team for outage schedule compliance.

Work Environment

  • Position is based within the Central Operations group, which acts as a support and governance function for our regional and facility teams, with regular travel to facilities required (approximately 30-40% of time).
  • Combination of office-based technical review and field-based walk-downs for scope development followed by oversight of contractor activities.

Future Expansion of Role

  • After establishing and institutionalizing QA/QC processes for structural work, progressively take on broader oversight of facility systems (e.g., mechanical or electrical project/repair quality).
  • Contribute to building and mentoring a multidisciplinary QA/QC team to manage quality governance across the company's facilities portfolio.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Structural or Civil Engineering required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.

Experience:

  • 7+ years of structural engineering experience, with a focus on repair, remediation, or rehabilitation in industrial environments (e.g., power generation, petrochemical, heavy manufacturing).
  • Demonstrated experience in QA/QC and contractor/vendor oversight, ideally within a central governance or owner's representative role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Hands-on exposure to field repair activities and coordination with certified weld inspectors.
  • Strong understanding of relevant codes, standards, and QA/QC practices.
  • Ability to perform structural risk analyses and communicate technical findings to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to function in a multi-discipline team; often leading and assuming accountability for overall team deliverables is required.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with nondestructive testing (NDT) methods and inspection technologies.
  • Experience with risk-based inspection (RBI) or reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) approaches.
  • Strong knowledge of industrial safety standards and contractor management practices.
  • Proficiency with QA/QC documentation tools
