What does a quality control associate do?

A Quality Control Associate is responsible for ensuring that products meet established standards of quality, including reliability, usability, and performance. They conduct inspections, perform tests, and document their findings to identify defects or deviations from specifications. Quality Control Associates often work closely with production teams to address issues and help maintain compliance with industry regulations. Their role is critical in maintaining customer satisfaction and upholding the reputation of their company. They may work in a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and food production.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quality control associate?

To thrive as a Quality Control Associate, you need a solid understanding of quality assurance principles, attention to detail, and often a background in science or manufacturing. Familiarity with inspection tools, laboratory equipment, and quality management systems (such as ISO standards) is typically required, and certifications like Six Sigma or ASQ may be advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills set exceptional candidates apart. These skills ensure that products consistently meet standards, reduce errors, and support overall operational excellence.

What are some common challenges quality control associates face when ensuring product consistency across different production batches?

Quality Control Associates often encounter challenges such as variations in raw material quality, changes in manufacturing processes, and tight production schedules that can lead to inconsistencies between batches. Addressing these issues requires keen attention to detail, effective communication with production teams, and a strong understanding of standard operating procedures. Staying proactive in identifying potential sources of variation and collaborating closely with other departments helps maintain high product standards and minimizes the risk of defects.

The Queen’s Cue, a Marriott Tribute Portfolio Hotel, is seeking a hands-on Rooms Operations Supervisor to join our opening team! Working closely with the Rooms Division Manager, you will support the daily operation of the Front Office and Housekeeping departments, with a strong focus on guestroom quality, front-desk coverage and the overall guest experience.

This is an operational role for someone who enjoys being present on the floor, supporting the team and leading by example. You will complete guestroom inspections, assist with front-desk shifts, respond to guest requests and help ensure every room and arrival experience reflects the standards expected of a Marriott Tribute Portfolio hotel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the daily operation of the Front Office and Housekeeping departments under the direction of the Rooms Division Manager.
  • Work scheduled front-desk shifts, including completing guest check-ins and check-outs, processing payments and responding to guest requests.
  • Complete regular inspections of guestrooms and public areas to ensure cleanliness, presentation and maintenance standards are consistently achieved.
  • Communicate room-status updates, priority rooms and guest requests between the Front Office and Housekeeping teams.
  • Assist in coordinating room readiness, early arrivals, late departures, room moves and other daily operational requirements.
  • Lead associates during assigned shifts by providing direction, answering questions and supporting the smooth flow of operations.
  • Monitor the guest arrival experience and ensure special requests, preferences and VIP amenities are prepared and communicated appropriately.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest concerns, resolving issues where possible and escalating more significant matters to the Rooms Division Manager.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of hotel services, amenities, room types, local attractions and Marriott Bonvoy benefits.
  • Assist with training new Front Office and Housekeeping associates on departmental procedures and service expectations.
  • Monitor cleanliness, organization and presentation throughout guest-facing areas of the hotel.
  • Identify maintenance concerns during room inspections and ensure they are documented and communicated for follow-up.
  • Assist with lost-and-found procedures, key control, guest deliveries and other departmental processes.
  • Support overnight, weekend and holiday operations when required based on business levels.
  • Ensure compliance with hotel policies, Marriott standards, health and safety requirements and applicable privacy procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with all hotel departments to ensure guest requests and operational concerns are addressed efficiently.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Rooms Division Manager to support the overall operation of the hotel.

What We Offer

  • Competitive hourly wage of $21.00 per hour.
  • Comprehensive benefits plan for eligible associates and their family members.
  • RRSP matching program for eligible associates.
  • Flexible scheduling designed to support work-life balance.
  • Associate and family travel discounts at Crescent-managed hotels across North America, as well as Marriott properties worldwide.
  • 50% dining discount at The Queen’s Cue and The Boar’s Head.
  • A supportive, collaborative workplace where your contribution is valued, trusted and recognized

    Does This Sound Like You?

You are a hands-on hospitality professional who takes pride in well-presented guestrooms, smooth arrivals and thoughtful guest service. You enjoy being involved in the daily operation, whether you are inspecting rooms, supporting the front desk, responding to a guest request or helping the team through a busy shift.

You set the standard through your actions, communicate effectively and stay composed when priorities shift. You pay close attention to detail and recognize that even the smallest touches—from how a guestroom is presented to how a concern is addressed—have a meaningful impact on the overall guest experience.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

    • Previous experience in a hotel Front Office, Housekeeping or Rooms operation.
    • Previous supervisory or team-lead experience is preferred.
    • A strong understanding of guest service and hotel operational standards.
    • The ability to complete detailed guestroom inspections and identify cleanliness, presentation and maintenance concerns.
    • Confidence working at the front desk, including completing check-ins, check-outs and payment transactions.
    • Strong communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
    • A guest-first mindset and the confidence to respond professionally to concerns and requests.
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage changing priorities.
    • Experience using a hotel property-management system is preferred.
    • Familiarity with Marriott systems, standards or Marriott Bonvoy is considered an asset.
    • A professional appearance and a commitment to maintaining high hospitality standards.
    • The ability to stand and walk for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs. (11 kg) when required.
    • Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays, based on business needs.

We welcome applications from people with disabilities. Accommodations are available upon request for candidates taking part in all aspects of the selection process.
