What does a quality control associate do?

A Quality Control Associate is responsible for ensuring that products meet established standards of quality, including reliability, usability, and performance. They conduct inspections, perform tests, and document their findings to identify defects or deviations from specifications. Quality Control Associates often work closely with production teams to address issues and help maintain compliance with industry regulations. Their role is critical in maintaining customer satisfaction and upholding the reputation of their company. They may work in a variety of industries, including pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, and food production.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a quality control associate?

To thrive as a Quality Control Associate, you need a solid understanding of quality assurance principles, attention to detail, and often a background in science or manufacturing. Familiarity with inspection tools, laboratory equipment, and quality management systems (such as ISO standards) is typically required, and certifications like Six Sigma or ASQ may be advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills set exceptional candidates apart. These skills ensure that products consistently meet standards, reduce errors, and support overall operational excellence.

What are some common challenges quality control associates face when ensuring product consistency across different production batches?

Quality Control Associates often encounter challenges such as variations in raw material quality, changes in manufacturing processes, and tight production schedules that can lead to inconsistencies between batches. Addressing these issues requires keen attention to detail, effective communication with production teams, and a strong understanding of standard operating procedures. Staying proactive in identifying potential sources of variation and collaborating closely with other departments helps maintain high product standards and minimizes the risk of defects.

MVS Metals (Owen Industries) โ€“ Sioux City, IA | 1st Shift | Mondayโ€“Thursday, 4x10 | Full-Time

Every Friday Off. Doing Work That Actually Matters.

MVS Metals is looking for a Quality Technician who knows their way around a CMM, understands GD&T, and takes pride in getting dimensions right the first time. Youโ€™ll be working with advanced inspection technology โ€” Virtek laser QC systems, PC-DMIS-driven portable CMMs, and UniPoint โ€” on parts that go into real industrial applications for real customers.

The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 10-hour days, which means you have every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to yourself. If you want a quality role with serious technical depth and a schedule that actually gives you a life outside work โ€” this is it.

What Youโ€™ll Do

  • Program and operate portable CMM (PCMM) equipment using PC-DMIS software to conduct dimensional layouts and first-article inspections
  • Perform quality control inspections using Virtek laser projection/tracking systems to verify part conformance to design intent
  • Interpret 3D models and drawings in CAD/SolidWorks to build inspection programs, apply GD&T callouts, and identify critical characteristics
  • Create and maintain inspection specifications and control plans within UniPoint
  • Support the PPAP process โ€” execute required measurements, generate dimensional and capability data, and prepare documentation for customer submission
  • Document inspection results, nonconformances, and corrective actions in the quality management system
  • Maintain calibration schedules and verify accuracy of inspection equipment
  • Collaborate with production and quality personnel to resolve dimensional discrepancies and drive continuous improvement

What Weโ€™re Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing quality control or inspection role
  • PC-DMIS and portable CMM experience preferred
  • Proficiency reading and interpreting CAD models, technical drawings, and GD&T callouts; SolidWorks experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of GD&T fundamentals
  • Strong attention to detail and solid problem-solving skills
  • Ability to write clear, accurate inspection reports and quality documentation
  • Exposure to PPAP, APQP, or automotive/industrial quality tools a plus
  • Associate's degree or technical certificate in manufacturing, quality, or engineering a plus; high school diploma or GED required

Compensation & Benefits

โœ… $22โ€“$24/hr based on experience

โœ… Mondayโ€“Thursday schedule โ€” every Friday off, 4x10-hour days

โœ… Health, Dental & Vision insurance

โœ… Life/AD&D and Short & Long-Term Disability coverage

โœ… 401(k) after 6 months

โœ… PTO and paid holidays โ€” accrual begins immediately

Medical, Dental, Vision, and Disability benefits begin the 1st of the month after 30 days of employment.
