Job description

The roll of Senior Civil Engineer/Division Manager is to find, win, plan, organize and execute engineering projects and services profitably and with the excellence expected by the client. They must acquire, develop, and organize talent to deliver the various technical and project management skills and disciplines to manage quality control, and to assure company objectives are met. This includes coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. They will also perform the duties of project manager including writing successful proposals that establishes the work to be done at a price that achieves company profitability goals. The PM acquires the appropriate resources and coordinates the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The position oversees quality control throughout its life cycle and provides technical guidance to the project team.

The specific responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

1.      Oversee the quality control of the work performed, putting procedures and processes in place and assuring their adherence to deliver the excellence expected by the client and in line with the brand of McCarthy Engineering.

2.      Manage client relationships within the Division to assure expectations for current and future projects are managed and met.

3.      Manage the sales function within the Division to assure a full pipeline of projects.

4.      Management of human resources for the Division:

·         Forecasting of needs, recruitment, selection, hiring and on-boarding of the right talents and resources necessary to deliver engineering services within the division on-time and on-budget.

·         Scheduling and assignment of resources to properly balance man-hours and skills available with project needs.

·         Development of existing team members to maximize their potential and their ability to meet the needs of the division and company.

·         When necessary, manage the termination of team members who cannot deliver the technical requirements satisfactorily and/or fit within the culture of McCarthy Engineering.

5.      Direct and manage projects to deliver satisfaction to the client, profitability to the company, and learning and development opportunities to team members.

6.      Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and other stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion throughout the project

7.      Oversee preparation of design and construction documents in keeping the firm’s design philosophy.  That philosophy is to provide the client not only what is necessary from a permitting standpoint, but also to provide the client with a set of documents which will allow the successful bidder to construct the project efficiently and with minimal changes in scope of work.

8.      Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel throughout the project.

9.      Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team and with the client throughout the project.

10.  Plan, schedule, and track project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.

11.  Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plans.

12.  Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

13.  Work with sales and marketing team to close new project contracts and develop new client opportunities.

14.  Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff.
