Job description

Description

As the Quality Assurance Technician, you will be responsible for administrative duties and day-to-day activities directly related to the quality department at the assigned site. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with internal and external procedures, regulatory agency guidelines, and institutional policies. As the Quality Assurance Technician, you will perform product inspections, develop and train new quality procedures and monitor plant performance. You will also assist in complaint evaluations, investigations, and corrective actions. Lastly, as the Quality Assurance Technician, you will perform internal audits on a routine basis to identify any non-conforming areas and develop sustainable corrective actions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proactively audit jobs while in production to verify that Quality checks are being completed properly.
  • Pull samples for external complaints, investigate root cause, and develop corrective actions by working with associates across departments.
  • Write SOPs for current processes as well as future processes that will be implemented. Focus on 1-point lessons which are visual in nature.
  • Communicate and document all non-conforming raw materials to plant Buyer.
  • Log all internal and external quality issues and maintain communication with customers to ensure that non-conforming products are addressed promptly.
  • Issue all Certificates of Destruction, C of C’s and all quality related paperwork that customers and vendors may require.
  • Review quality procedures and forms for effectiveness (Maintain Best Practices) and ensure revision control is properly executed.
  • Compile past data to better identify trends in quality issues and vendor reliability.
  • Develop training materials, conduct training, and maintain training records for all employees on quality programs.
  • Maintain the color standard folder program.
  • Complete functional testing as needed, to meet customer requirements.
  • Promote quality achievement, performance improvement, and regulatory requirements throughout the organization.
  • Effectively interact with Engineering, Customer Service, Sales, Production, and the Purchasing teams to maintain product supply, introduce new products, and establish quality requirements and testing.
  • Interface with regulatory agencies, committee members, and other organizational staff to formulate corrective actions.
  • Establish procedures, documentation and oversee committees, as necessary, to ensure compliance with all internal and external (ISO, AIB, Customer, etc.) quality requirements.
  • Perform internal quality audits, identify non-conforming items, create and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor performance by gathering relevant data and producing statistical reports. (KPI’s, Internal and external issues, etc.)
  • Complete weekly and monthly Quality Scorecards and upload to Smartsheet. Work with production management to address performance misses and develop appropriate corrective actions.
  • Act as primary practitioner for SQF or any other applicable accreditations within the site (if applicable).
  • Promote and support safety initiatives and provide safety training for new hires.
  • Additional duties as required.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • High School diploma or at least three (3) years of experience within the printing or packaging industry or related quality experience in any manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant safety laws and regulations and other quality assurance processes/procedures preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing preferred.
  • HACCP, SQF Practitioner, or appropriate GFSI Certifications for accredited facilities only.

Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience and understanding of quality related documentation.
  • Able to analyze data, draw conclusions, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • High level of detail-orientation.
  • Able to prioritize different tasks.
  • Proactive mindset with proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven ability to build consensus and lead change.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing/production environment operations.
  • HACCP/SQF/BRC/ISO22000/GFSI maintenance & employee training for accredited facilities only.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Training Requirements:

  • Willing to attend required training courses or sessions related to the job as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Lifting, sitting, standing, crouching, required. Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and subject to random drug screening.

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to dust and noise in the production environment.
  • Warehouse environment temperatures may be influenced by outside temperatures.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Safety glasses are recommended in the production area.
  • Safety shoes are recommended in the production area.
