About the Agency: The Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH) certifies, provides and/or financially supports a network of services for people with mental illness, intellectual/developmental disabilities, and substance use disorders. This position is in the Mississippi Department of Mental Health's Central Office, which provides the overall statewide administrative functions for the programs and services that fall under the oversight of the agency. About the Position: The Department of Mental Health is seeking a Director for the Division of Autism Service. This position will Supervise the Division of Autism Services as established by House Bill 807 to develop and coordinate autism services for individuals with ASD and their families. The Director of Autism Services is responsible for the following areas:• Provide leadership in program development for people with ASD, including establishment of program standards and coordination of program capacity.• Engages with stakeholders to identify the needs of individuals with autism spectrum disorder and their families• Engages with agencies statewide to collaborate and share information to facilitate policy decisions and the implementation of a plan for a comprehensive statewide system of care to individuals with ASD• Develops appropriate recommendations for policies, procedures, best practices, systems improvement, and sustainability as it relates to ASD• Develops a long-term plan for a comprehensive statewide coordinated system of care for individuals with ASD, which, to the extent practicable, is derived from scientific-based research and nationally recognized best practices• Facilitates connections to appropriate services, referrals, and supports based on identified needs• Tracks progress through quantitative and qualitative metrics reflecting individual outcomes, provider network growth, community outreach activities, and collaboration with service implementation partners.• Drafts correspondence and reports for legislative, policy, and educational purposes as needed• Serves as the central point of contact within the Mississippi Department of Mental Health (DMH) for issues specific to ASD• Develops interagency agreements and memoranda of understanding as needed• Participates in a variety of collaboration opportunities, including meetings, trainings, workshops, webinars, and conferences, to support statewide autism services• Demonstrates active engagement by fostering and expanding collaborative statewide initiatives focused on autism service delivery across the lifespan• Promotes the mission and initiatives of DMH through active participation in outreach events and community engagement efforts• Performs other duties as identified
What you'll need to be Successful: Supervisory and managerial experience, the ability to solve problems quickly, decision-making skills, strong knowledge of child development and best practices in the field of ASD, Knowledge and understanding of state and federal rules, regulations, and initiatives regarding ASD and related subject matter, ability to express ideas orally and written, ability to write and manage grants, ability to effectively collaborate, negotiate, and resolve conflict with stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of experience and 2-4 years of supervisory experience.Agency preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to those with:• Master's degree in behavior analysis, psychology, or social work;• Three years of full-time experience in the provision and administration of services to individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD); and• Two years of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity
