What is a QA UAT tester?

QA UAT Testers, or Quality Assurance User Acceptance Testing Testers, are professionals responsible for evaluating software applications to ensure they meet business requirements and are user-friendly before release. They simulate end-user scenarios to identify any issues, bugs, or usability problems that might affect the user experience. Their feedback helps developers make necessary adjustments to improve the application's quality and functionality. QA UAT Testers play a crucial role in the final approval process before software goes live.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a QA UAT tester?

To thrive as a QA UAT Tester, you need a strong understanding of software testing methodologies, user acceptance testing processes, and a background in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with test management tools like Jira, defect tracking systems, and sometimes ISTQB certification are typically expected. Attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication help QA UAT Testers excel in identifying issues and collaborating with stakeholders. These skills ensure that software meets business requirements and user expectations before release, reducing costly errors and enhancing product quality.

What are common challenges faced by QA UAT testers during user acceptance testing, and how can they be overcome?

QA UAT Testers often encounter challenges such as unclear business requirements, limited user availability for testing, and last-minute changes to features. Overcoming these issues requires proactive communication with stakeholders, thorough documentation of test cases, and flexibility in adapting to shifting priorities. Building strong relationships with both business users and development teams facilitates smoother test cycles and ensures that feedback is effectively incorporated before the product goes live.

Job description

QA / UAT Lead
6+ Months
Hybrid / Chiago, IL

Role Summary
The QA/UAT Lead owns test strategy, planning, and execution across system testing and user acceptance testing (UAT) for the Dynamic DSM Data Tracking System. This role is critical to validating that the Dynamics 365/Power Platform/Azure solution meets business and regulatory requirements before go-live, and to coordinating UAT participation from business stakeholders under a tight, holiday-compressed schedule.
Key Responsibilities
·         Develop and maintain the overall test strategy and test plan, covering functional, integration, regression, and UAT phases
·         Build detailed test cases and scripts based on business requirements, configuration specs, and integration design documents
·         Coordinate and lead UAT cycles directly with business stakeholders, including scheduling, training on test procedures, and defect triage sessions
·         Manage the defect/issue log through Azure DevOps: logging, prioritization, retesting, and closure tracking
·         Partner with the Config Lead, BA/SME, and Integration Architect to ensure test coverage reflects real program workflows and data scenarios
·         Produce test summary reports and go/no-go readiness assessments for project governance and sponsor review
·         Plan and manage test execution around the December holiday blackout period to avoid schedule slippage
·         Support hyper care test validation immediately following go-live
·         Escalate testing risks and blockers promptly given the fixed January 1, 2027 go-live date
Required Qualifications
·         5+ years of QA/UAT leadership experience on enterprise system implementations, ideally Dynamics 365 or Power Platform projects
·         Demonstrated experience designing test strategies and leading UAT cycles with business (non-technical) stakeholders
·         Experience with Azure DevOps for test case management and defect tracking
·         Experience in utility, energy efficiency, or other regulated program environments (DSM/EE program experience a strong plus)
·         Strong facilitation skills — comfortable running UAT sessions and defect triage meetings with client stakeholders
·         Ability to produce clear, executive-ready test status and readiness reporting
·         Eligible to pass client''''s third-party system access and security credentialing requirements
Preferred Qualifications
·         ISTQB or similar QA certification
·         Experience testing integrations between Dynamics 365/Power Platform and external/legacy utility systems

Work Arrangement Notes
·         On-site presence required at client facilities for UAT sessions with business stakeholders and defect triage
·         Must be available to support test execution and go-live validation around the January1, 2027 go-live, including the compressed run-up through the December holiday period
