What Will You Do?

The primary role of the Quality Laboratory Tech is to ensure materials are acceptable for use by evaluating all results from testing and visual inspection. Depending on experience, this position ranges from moderate to strong quality experience and/or knowledge. The employee in this position will help maintain quality standards by approving incoming materials, in-process production, and finished products. The employee is responsible for ensuring the highest safety procedures are always followed. This employee will participate in continuous improvement efforts and defect reduction in a plastic extrusion and compounding environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performing various laboratory tests on finished product (lawn edging, paver, dock edging, matting, and chair mats). Laboratory tests include material and functional testing.
  • Performing various visual inspections and dimensional checks of products at different stages of the manufacturing process.
  • Evaluate materials, packaging, and products to ensure compliance with Dimex standards.
  • Support Marketing, Sales, and Product Development groups via approve lab requests.
  • Lead in the resolution of quality related issues.
  • Significantly participate in production trials.
  • Communicate issues to quality and production supervisors.
  • Approve final production by confirming the product meets specifications.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree or applicable experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment in QA Lab.
  • Ability to use statistical methods for monitoring and charting.
  • Ability to conduct analyses and create reports.
  • Ability to work independently under general guidance from Quality Supervisor.
  • Ability to compile, interpret, and record observations.
  • Help maintain laboratory and equipment as needed.
  • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/materials.
  • Must have mathematical skill to add, subtract, multiply and divide and apply these skills to weights, measures of volume, speed, and distance.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English one-on-one and in small group situations.
  • Must be competent in computer and PC data entry.
  • Must have problem solving skills and some mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Experienced with computer systems and ability to learn new computer responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively in fast paced team environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIROMENT

  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, scales, calipers, tape measure, hand trucks, utility knife and computer equipment.
  • Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 0 -110 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Must be able to wear safety shoes and safety glasses for 12 hrs.
  • Must be able to work in dusty environments wearing appropriate dust masks and respirators for 12 hrs.
  • Must be able to work in loud environments wearing appropriate ear protection for 12 hrs.
  • Must be able to walk safely on occasionally dusty, wet and/or slippery surfaces.
  • Must have the ability to routinely lift/carry 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must have the ability to routinely push/pull 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Must have the ability to stand for 12 hours.
  • Must have the ability to reach above his or her shoulders.
  • Must have the ability to routinely Bend, Squat, Kneel, Twist/Turn.
  • Must have the ability to routinely climb vertical fixed and mobile ladders.
  • Must have the ability to operate a powdered industrial truck safely and routinely.
