Job description

Our Mission

American Fork City's mission is to provide excellence in service to residents, visitors, and business community to foster a high quality of life.

What You’ll Deliver

American Fork City is hiring an entry-level GIS Technician to support accurate, up-to-date GIS information that helps City teams plan, review, and communicate infrastructure data. This role exists to keep spatial records reliable, searchable, and ready for engineering and public-facing needs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Create and maintain digitized maps and spatial layers using ArcGIS and ArcGIS Online
- Produce map outputs and graphics for projects; support drafting needs with AutoCAD Map 3D
- Organize and update data base content; perform quality checks and version control
- Research and interpret blueprints, plans, and drawings; document findings clearly
- Use Python and Arcade for workflow support and attribute logic when needed
Required qualifications/skills:
- High school diploma plus two years technical training in computer science, or an associate degree in computer science (GIS specialization) and one year of experience
- Working knowledge of Windows, Excel, Office, ArcGIS, ArcGIS Online, Python, and Arcade
- Understanding of GIS concepts, procedures, and design methods
Apply to help strengthen the City’s GIS mapping and data accuracy.

How Your Day Flows

You’ll start onsite in American Fork by reviewing incoming requests and prioritizing GIS updates. Most of the day is spent building or refining map layers in ArcGIS, checking attributes, and validating geometry so the information is dependable. You’ll shift between screens and source materials—plans, drawings, and field notes—then translate them into clean, standardized records. When a map needs a polished finish, you’ll format graphics for clear distribution and, as needed, move into AutoCAD Map 3D to align drafting outputs. You’ll also spend focused time tightening datasets, keeping the data base organized, and using ArcGIS Online to publish or refresh content for internal use.

Benefits That Support You

Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage; 401(k); Life Insurance; Health Savings Account (HSA) and Flexible Spending Account (FSA); Competitive Salary; Paid Time Off; Employee Discounts; URS retirement benefits; and an American Fork Fitness Center pass.
