What is the Opportunity?

As Associate Director, ESG Risk Analytics, you will support the advancement of RBC's Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) risk analysis capabilities through initiatives including climate scenario analysis, risk analytics, risk monitoring and reporting, and the integration of ESG data into the bank's risk management processes and frameworks.

You'll need strong analytical & organizational skills, an agile mindset in the face of ambiguity and change, and an ability to use data to drive actionable risk insights.

What will you do?

  • Lead ESG Risk analysis in a collaborative and diverse team environment, developing data-driven solutions to identify, measure, and manage those risks;
  • Own end-to-end analytical workstreams from problem definition to delivery, including scoping, methodology design, analysis and insights generation
  • Conduct deep-dive applied analytics to uncover ESG Risk insights and inform risk management actions
  • Partner with business and functional stakeholders to integrate ESG risk data and insights into risk management practices.
  • Build and manage data assets and pipelines for physical and transition risk analysis and modeling, including onboarding new datasets where appropriate
  • Support the preparation and review of material for internal management reporting and external disclosures (e.g., Annual Report, Sustainability Report, regulatory requests etc.)
  • Keep abreast of evolving regulatory requirements, geopolitical and macroeconomic changes impacting ESG risk, and best practices for ESG risk measurement, integration and governance.

What do you need to succeed?

Must Have

  • An interest in ESG and particularly climate-related risks in a rapidly changing geopolitical and regulatory environment, both in Canada and globally
  • Demonstrated experience owning and managing complex analytical projects from start to finish
  • Experience with analytical techniques such as data wrangling, reconciliation, benchmarking, visualization to drive insight from data
  • Advanced proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g. Python, SQL, Excel, Tableau) and techniques data wrangling, reconciliation, benchmarking, and visualization
  • Strong risk management expertise, including familiarity with credit risk practices, financial data, and RBC's risk frameworks.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proven ability to present insights to a senior audience
  • Commitment to quality and accuracy with a high level of attention to detail

Nice to Have

  • Advanced degree in a relevant discipline such as business, sustainability, engineering, math, environmental science
  • Climate risk expertise, including experience applying climate change scenarios, models and data.
  • Stakeholder engagement experience and comfort interacting with senior executives
  • Familiarity with geospatial data analysis
  • Familiarity with climate regulations (e.g. OSFI B-15, ISSB, CSRD)
