What is the opportunity?

As the Director, Portfolio Analytics & Insights on the Home Equity Finance (HEF) Analytics & Insights team, you will lead a team of two high-performing analysts and partner with Product, Policy, Operations Excellence and Business Risk to translate business priorities into actionable analytics, insights, reporting and monitoring capabilities. This is a unique opportunity to join HEF, the market leader in residential mortgages in Canada with over $475 Billion in assets.

What will you do?

Drive Key Business Objectives

  • Partner with Product, Policy, Operations Excellence and Business Risk to deliver analytics and insights that advance key business priorities and strategic objectives

  • Develop deep analytical understanding of portfolio performance, key drivers, segment economics and customer behaviours to identify opportunities, risks and emerging trends

  • Lead analysis on product innovations and strategic initiatives, including business case development to inform investment decisions and product/feature prioritization

  • Deliver concise, timely, and insightful reporting to senior management and stakeholders on business and portfolio performance, including self-serve tools, while ensuring accuracy to meet HEF's risk and regulatory requirements and support remediation initiatives.

Establish and Scale Data-Driven Insights COE

  • Define and drive the analytics agenda for the HEF portfolio, prioritizing analytical work against the highest-value business opportunities and decisions

  • Establish analytical standards, capabilities and best practices that elevate data-driven decision-making across HEF

  • Lead strategic and exploratory analysis that generates actionable insights, challenges the status quo and enables fact-based business decisions

  • Proactively identify, assess and recommend opportunities to drive growth, improve portfolio performance and optimize business outcomes by leveraging internal and external data

Build Analytics Capability and Talent

  • Build a high-performing, future-ready analytics team by developing technical, analytical, business and leadership capabilities in the team, while creating opportunities for career growth.

  • Set clear goals, accountabilities and measurable outcomes for direct reports, providing coaching, development and prioritization support to enable individual and team success.

  • Champion continuous improvement, modern analytical tools and new ways of working to improve the effectiveness and impact of the analytics function.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-Have:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in data and analytics, with demonstrated experience delivering actionable business insights

  • Strong technical and analytical acumen, with experience leveraging tools such as Python, SQL, Tableau and Excel to generate analytics and insights; advanced PowerPoint and communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to influence and partner with senior leaders, translate business priorities into analytical plans, and effectively prioritize competing work relative to team capacity.

  • Strategic thinker with a strong bias for action and demonstrated ability to translate insights into business outcomes

  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, with a track record of coaching and developing high-performing talent

Nice-To-Have:

  • Experience developing AI-enabled automation and analytical tools

  • Bachelors/Masters degree in a quantitative field (e.g. Business, Economics, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, etc.)

  • Strong understanding of credit risk fundamentals, including risk modeling and credit strategy

  • Demonstrated understanding of the mortgage industry and its key financial drivers

  • Previous experience in a Product or Finance role (Corporate Treasury, Funds Transfer Pricing)
