Job description

Software Developer/Programmer – SubCom, Portsmouth, NH.

Position Overview

The Department of System Design and Product Management is looking for a software engineer to assist in developing and managing software simulation tools used to design high‑capacity undersea fiber‑optic networks. The role involves working with optical designers and project engineers on the delivery of undersea optical communication systems, introducing enhancements to the in‑house software tools for fiber‑optic network design, optimization, evaluation, and implementation, and collaborating across R&D, Sales, Project Management, Marine Operations, and Manufacturing.

Responsibilities
  • Create new and update existing software tools.
  • Assist engineers in troubleshooting code that incorporates numerical methods to simulate various physical effects.
  • Update GUI features based on user feedback.
  • Manage the software development cycle: collect and document Modification Requests, work with senior engineers to incorporate changes, prepare new releases, run test cases, and publish release notes.
  • Perform updates to multiple software development packages via GitLab.
  • Administer the Linux server where the source code resides.
  • Collaborate with software developers in other SubCom organizations to access data in various databases and facilitate data flow with other software packages.
Qualifications
  • BS in Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Working knowledge of C++ and C#.
  • Proficiency with GitLab.
  • Some experience with Linux system administration.
  • Familiarity with numerical methods.
  • Understanding of basic physical principles and concepts of telecommunications components.
  • Recent college graduates are welcome.
