What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Entry-Level Python Programmer, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Entry-Level Python Programmer, you need a solid grasp of Python fundamentals, problem-solving abilities, and typically a degree or coursework in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic knowledge of databases, and exposure to frameworks such as Flask or Django are often expected. Attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and effective communication help you collaborate and adapt quickly in a team environment. These skills ensure you can write clean code, contribute to projects efficiently, and grow within dynamic development teams.

What entry level jobs can you get with Python?

Entry-level jobs with Python include roles such as Python developer, data analyst, automation tester, and junior software engineer. These positions often require basic programming skills, familiarity with libraries like pandas or NumPy, and sometimes certifications or coursework in programming fundamentals.

Are Python still in demand in 2026?

Python programming remains highly in demand for entry-level roles in 2026 due to its widespread use in data analysis, web development, and automation. Employers value skills in Python, along with knowledge of frameworks like Django or libraries such as Pandas, making it a strong choice for new programmers entering the job market.

What are entry level Python programming jobs?

Entry level Python programming jobs are positions designed for individuals who are new to programming or have limited professional experience with Python. These roles typically involve tasks such as writing simple scripts, debugging code, updating software, and assisting with larger projects under the supervision of experienced developers. Employers look for candidates with a basic understanding of Python syntax, problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to learn new tools and technologies. Entry level positions may include job titles like Junior Python Developer, Python Intern, or Software Developer I.

Will AI replace Python coders?

AI is unlikely to fully replace entry-level Python programmers, as coding requires problem-solving, creativity, and understanding of context that AI tools currently cannot replicate. Instead, AI can serve as a complement, automating repetitive tasks and enhancing productivity for Python developers. Developing skills in AI-assisted coding tools and staying updated with programming best practices remain valuable for job security.

How do entry-level Python programmers typically collaborate with more experienced developers on projects?

Entry-level Python programmers often work closely with senior developers through code reviews, pair programming sessions, and regular team meetings. This collaboration helps newcomers learn best practices, understand project architecture, and receive constructive feedback. It's common to start with smaller tasks or bug fixes, gradually taking on more complex assignments as you build confidence and skill. Open communication and willingness to ask questions are encouraged, as teamwork is essential in most Python development environments.

Job description

Job Description
At Lockheed Martin we keep people safe and solve the world's most complex challenges. Our people are some of the greatest minds in the industry and truly make Lockheed Martin a great place to work. With our employees as our priority, we provide career opportunities designed to propel development and boost agility. Our flexible schedules, competitive pay, and comprehensive benefits enable our employees to live a healthy, fulfilling life at and outside of work. This is a place for engineers, scientists, and problem-solvers who are ready to engage deeply, think critically, and build with purpose. You will not just launch a career. You will be part of something bigger. This is where the best are built.
The Cyber Software Engineer Associate role is an entry-level position focused towards recent graduates or early career professionals eager to begin applying cybersecurity principles within a fast-moving cyber engineering environment. In this position you will work under the guidance of senior cyber engineers and architects to learn and implement established security frameworks such as NIST, OWASP, and ISO 27001 throughout the software development lifecycle. Daily activities include assisting with vulnerability scans, static-code analysis, and basic compliance checks while gaining hands-on experience with Python scripts that automate security-related tasks.
The Cyber Software Engineer Associate will contribute to CI/CD pipelines by adding modest security checks, help maintain documentation of security findings, and support the preparation of reports for internal stakeholders. Collaboration is a key component as you will attend cross-functional meetings with product owners, DevOps, and software architects to understand how security requirements are translated into code, and will participate in code-review sessions to learn secure-coding best practices. Mentorship and continuous learning are emphasized as you will be expected to complete onboarding training, pursue relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, GSEC), and stay current on emerging threats by engaging in internal knowledge-sharing events.
To succeed as a Cyber Software Engineer Associate, you must possess a solid foundation in programming (especially Python), a basic grasp of core security concepts and industry standards, and the ability to quickly learn and apply tools such as Git and simple static-analysis scanners. Equally important are strong communication and teamwork skills, being able to follow guidance, ask targeted questions, and clearly document work for both technical and non-technical audiences. A proactive learning mindset, demonstrated through coursework, projects, internships, or self-directed study, enables you to contribute effectively to our team's secure-by-design initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
• Must be a US Citizen; this position will require a government security clearance. This position is located at a facility that requires special access.
• Possess or ability to obtain a CompTIA Security+ certification (or DoDM 8140.03 equivalent or higher certification) within 90 days of hire
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a closely related technical field.
• 0-2 years of software development/scripting or related technical experience. This can include internships, co-op positions, capstone projects, open-source contributions, or any hands-on work that demonstrates the ability to write, test, and maintain code.
• Familiarity with Linux Command Line Interface (CLI) and Bash shell
• Proficiency in at least one high-level language (preferably Python) plus exposure to another language such as Java, C/C++, or Go. Ability to read, modify, and debug existing codebases.
Desired skills
• Familiarity with National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Cyber Security Framework (CSF), Risk Management Framework (RMF), and/or Secure Software Development Framework (SSDF).
• Familiarity with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), Center for Internet Security (CIS), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), or equivalent cyber security standards providers.
• Basic familiarity with core cybersecurity concepts such as confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, and authorization. Introductory exposure to industry frameworks (e.g., OWASP Top 10, NIST CSF, ISO 27001) and secure-coding best practices is expected.
• Introductory experience with version-control systems (Git), basic static analysis tools (e.g., Bandit, pylint), and simple CI/CD concepts (e.g., running automated tests in a pipeline).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; capable of producing clear technical notes, meeting minutes, and basic documentation for internal stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, follow direction from senior engineers or architects, and contribute constructively during code reviews and stand-ups.
• Evident enthusiasm for continuous learning, participation in hackathons, security clubs, online courses (e.g., Coursera, Udemy), or relevant personal projects that show a proactive approach to building cyber-software expertise.
