Job Description
Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (NSSS Component Analysis)
Position Description: Protingent Staffing has an exciting contract Mechanical Engineer (NSSS Component Analysis)with our client that is fully remote.
Job Description:
  • The Nuclear Steam Supply System (NSSS) Component Engineering organization generates technical requirements and associated design parameters for the modular advanced light water reactor (ALWR) NSSS.
  • Utilizing proven state-of-the-art methodologies, NSSS components are engineered to nuclear industry standards.
  • The person in this position performs design and stress analyses of pressure vessels, reactor vessel internals, and/or primary equipment supports in accordance with ASME BPVC Section III and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • All work within the NSSS Component Engineering organization is completed under ASME NQA-1 quality assurance requirements and respective U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission guidelines.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Possesses excellent knowledge in functional discipline and its practical application and has detailed knowledge of applicable industry codes, standards and regulations.
  • Performs and documents evaluations of components to the rules and requirements of Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code including but not limited to analysis of components for pressure, mechanical/thermal loadings including Primary Stress, Primary plus Secondary stress intensity range, and Fatigue. Utilizes the results from these evaluations to optimize component(s) design.
  • Significant experience with ANSYS finite element software and CAD packages.
  • Interprets scope and project requirements.
  • Acquires, maintains and develops training qualifications. Provides guidance and mentoring to other staff members in all areas of NSSS Component Analysis.
  • Interacts with co-workers and other disciplines to promote effective coordination of design activities and resolution of technical problems. Individuals should be interested in acquiring general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields in order to function on multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provides mentoring and technical direction to less experienced engineers. Serves as a technical lead for the NSSS Component Analysis Group
  • Responsible for results and engineering oversight.

Job Qualifications:
  • Education: A minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering, from a four year ABET accredited college or university is required. An advanced degree is preferred. A professional engineer (P.E.) certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years of full-time relevant working experience is required. Candidates must have extensive experience utilizing ANSYS to perform stress analysis in accordance with Section III of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Subsections NB, NG, and/or NF.
  • Industry Requirements: Eligible to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810.
