Job description

Sellers & Associates LLCis seeking a JR. Data Scientist to provide technical support and solutions to NAVSEA’s Surface Training Systems Program Office (PMS 339) with specific focus on training facility program goals and objectives. This role will involve close coordination with Facilities Project Managers and various government stakeholders to implement advanced tools and technical solutions to assist in determining the most efficient utilization of available facilities for operation of mission systems/equipment.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting, organizing, and analyzing structured and unstructured data related to facilities projects, maintenance activities, and program operations
  • Support the development, maintenance, and optimization of an Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for facilities projects using low code COTS tools (e.g., Power Apps, Power BI, Power Automate, Project for the Web, Smartsheet, or similar platforms)
  • Apply foundational data science techniques to identify trends, patterns, and performance indicators within facilities and program data
  • Support the design, testing, and deployment of AI enabled or machine learning assisted tools, including classification models, predictive analytics, and workflow automation features
  • Assist senior staff in processing, cleansing, validating, and transforming data to ensure accuracy and integrity for reporting and modeling
  • Develop dashboards, visualizations, and automated reports to communicate insights to program leadership and stakeholders
  • Participate in requirements gathering sessions with the Program Office’s AI Lead and other stakeholders to document analytical needs, data requirements, and potential AI use cases
  • Support the integration of data from multiple systems and sources to improve visibility into project timelines, resource allocation, and risk indicators
  • Contributes to the creation of technical documentation, data dictionaries, workflow diagrams, and user guides
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to troubleshoot data issues, refine analytical outputs, and improve tool usability
  • Assist in the development of low code applications or enhancements that streamline project tracking, scheduling, and reporting processes
  • Maintain awareness of emerging AI, automation, and data analytics capabilities relevant to facilities management and program operations

Requirements:  

  • Foundational knowledge of data science principles including data cleaning, feature engineering, exploratory data analysis, and basic statistical modeling
  • Understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning concepts such as supervised learning, classification, regression, and model evaluation
  • Familiarity with low‑code/no‑code platforms (e.g., Microsoft Power Platform, Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, Smartsheet)
  • Knowledge of project scheduling fundamentals including Gantt charts, dependencies, critical paths, and Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) structures
  • Understanding of data visualization best practices and dashboard/report design
  • Awareness of data governance, data integrity, and quality assurance principles
  • Basic knowledge of relational databases, data structures, and introductory querying concepts
  • Familiarity with scripting or analytical languages such as Python, R, or SQL
  • Understanding of how to integrate data from multiple systems and sources to support analytics and reporting
  • Awareness of emerging AI, automation, and analytics capabilities relevant to facilities management and operational decision-making
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights
  • Skill in building dashboards, workflows, or data driven applications using Power BI, Excel, Power Apps, or similar tools
  • Ability to support the development of predictive or AI assisted features under senior guidance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to clearly explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences
  • Ability to document requirements, workflows, data definitions, and technical processes
  • Ability to quickly learn new tools, AI concepts, and data platforms
  • Ability to support creation and maintenance of an Integrated Master Schedule using low code tools or scheduling software

  • Experience supporting technical teams or project managers preferred but not required
  • Up to four (4) years of relevant experience or a BA/BS degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
