What is a Python junior?

Python Juniors are entry-level software developers who specialize in using the Python programming language. They typically have foundational knowledge of Python and basic software development principles, and may work on tasks such as writing simple scripts, debugging code, or supporting more experienced developers on larger projects. Python Juniors are often recent graduates or individuals transitioning into software development, and their role offers opportunities to learn and grow their skills in real-world settings.

What are some common challenges faced by Python junior developers during their first year on the job?

Python Junior developers often encounter challenges such as understanding large codebases, managing version control with tools like Git, and adapting to team workflows. Regular communication with senior developers and proactively seeking feedback can help overcome these hurdles and accelerate professional growth.

Strong communication, willingness to learn, and teamwork are important soft skills that set candidates apart. These skills and qualities are essential for effectively contributing to projects, collaborating with team members, and growing within a technical environment.

  • Build and support reusable data platform capabilities, ingestion frameworks, and data products (via dbt, Azure Logic Apps/Function Apps, and Snowflake) that enable self-service analytics across the enterprise.

  • Support the design and operation of reliable data pipelines, including monitoring, observability, testing, and recovery mechanisms.

  • Assist in maintaining integration and synchronization between source systems (on-premises and SaaS) and cloud-native platforms.

  • Develop scalable, well-modeled data transformation pipelines (dbt) under the guidance of senior team members to unlock analytical and AI-driven capabilities.

  • Learn and apply data engineering best practices — including CI/CD for data, testing standards, and code review norms — across the team.

  • Contribute ideas and feedback to the team's data engineering roadmap as your experience grows.

Qualifications

  • Python

  • SQL

  • Azure and/or AWS

  • Exposure to ELT processes, including cloud-native ingestion/orchestration (e.g., Azure Logic Apps, Azure Function Apps, or equivalent) and building transformation pipelines (e.g., dbt or equivalent)

  • Familiarity with data modeling and transformation frameworks (dbt or equivalent)

  • Exposure to data warehousing platforms such as Snowflake, Databricks, or equivalent

  • Some experience or coursework involving Apache Spark, real-time streaming technologies, or large-scale distributed data processing is a plus

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, GitHub Actions) is a plus

Some experience designing, building, or supporting production-grade data pipelines and data products at scale.

Developing understanding of data architecture, observability, testing, and engineering best practices, with eagerness to grow this expertise.

You're comfortable working across distributed teams and are eager to develop the ability to communicate technical concepts with both engineers and non-technical business stakeholders. A BS or MS in Computer Science — or equivalent experience — is expected.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Interest in or exposure to GenAI integration, LLM-enabled applications, vector search, or agentic workflows.

  • Prior experience (internship, coursework, or professional) in food service, hospitality, retail, or consumer-facing industries.
