Job Title: Systems Engineer

Location: Remote in the United States, excluding NY & CA

Job Status: Regular, Full-Time, Benefit Eligible

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Operations Manager


Job Summary:

This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining industrial data historians, control networks, and digital systems. This position is also responsible for offering expert guidance and delivering specialized solutions related to industrial production calculations and reporting. Visa sponsorship is not available and this position is not available for candidates residing in California or New York.


Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and administer industrial data historian servers, interfaces, and visualizations.
  • Create and maintain historian data points, calculations, and administrative settings.
  • Perform engineering studies, system assessments, and upgrade existing historian server systems.
  • Perform server system health monitoring and troubleshoots server system health issues ranging from small, localized problems to system-wide problems involving other related systems.
  • Create custom data visualization displays and reports.
  • Collect information on system-level project specifications, performance requirements, and known capabilities/limitations.
  • Determine hardware system status and limitations by gathering and evaluating information based on a variety of factors including security and reporting needs.
  • Review and modify existing systems software to improve performance, correct errors, and conform with compatibility requirements of available hardware.
  • Design system software to meet project requirements, collaborating with customers, vendors, and internal staff as needed.
  • Receive direction and prioritization of tasks internally from assigned CDM (Customer Delivery Manager).
  • Develop and lead software system testing and validation procedures; compile relevant documentation.
  • Provide software training for users on new or modified systems and networks.
  • Create standard procedure documentation (SOPs) of integrated systems for customers.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficient with AVEVA PI System or similar industrial data historians.
  • Intermediate knowledge of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and control systems.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with multidisciplinary teams, both technical and non-technical.

  • Demonstrated ability to resolve complex production issues.
  • Ability to facilitate interactive design and functional specification sessions.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Two to four years experience working with Industrial Operation Technology, related experience or a combination of experience and equivalent education.
  • A minimum of two (2) years hands-on systems experience in AVEVA PI System with working knowledge in one or more of the AVEVA PI System modules.
  • Knowledge of systems and/or business analysis design concepts. Demonstrated proficiency in the applied use of systems and process analysis tools (e.g. Root Cause, Value, Gap, etc.).
  • Any relevant AVEVA certifications, such as CSI AVEVA PI Installation, are ideal.
  • Knowledge of Business and/or Industrial networking topology, protocols and infrastructure preferred.
  • Cisco or networking related certifications are a bonus.
  • Experience with virtualization and containerization (e.g., VMware, Virtual Box).
  • Must have the means to apply for a Transportation Security Administration card (TWIC) within the first 30 days of employment.
  • Must be fluent in English, both verbal and written.

Environmental Requirements:

  • Work performed onsite at customer locations is in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Comply with applicable PPE and manufacturing safety protocol required during customer visits.
  • Familiar and comfortable with field work that is onsite at customer locations.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel up to 20%, by air when necessary, including day trips and overnight stays for several days.
  • Must possess a valid drivers license, reliable transportation, valid liability insurance and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel internationally (valid passport required).
  • Ability to work as needed after-hours, during weekends, and during holidays.
  • Be able to walk and stand frequently.
  • Be able to ascend or descend ladders, stairs or other structures.
  • May be exposed to hot and cold outdoor climate as work demands.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • May be required to infrequently lift up to 15 pounds.
  • Answer and return phone calls.
