Position Summary:

The Market Analyst supports power and natural gas forward curve marking, data analytics, and customer-facing market communication, with a focus on ERCOT and PJM. This role is flexible in level, from junior analyst to a more experienced hire, depending on the candidate's background. Prior experience with ERCOT, PJM, or other ISOs is a strong plus.


The role manages data using Databricks and PostgreSQL, builds Tableau visualizations, and applies analytical methods to identify pricing trends. The analyst will also be responsible for updating customer-facing market presentations and helping to produce periodic market recaps and outlooks.


Position Responsibilities:

  • Mark and maintain forward price curves for ERCOT and PJM power products.
  • Pull, clean, and manipulate data from Databricks, PostgreSQL, and Amazon Athena/S3, and build ad hoc and permanent visualizations and dashboards in Tableau.
  • Write SQL queries and manage data pulls across multiple database environments in support of recurring and one-off analysis.
  • Maintain and analyze large Excel workbooks; perform ad hoc analysis in Excel as needed.
  • Apply analytical methods, including basic statistical analysis, to identify pricing trends across power markets.
  • Help build and deliver customer-facing market update decks; present market moves and analysis directly to customers and to internal sales teams.
  • Write and publish quarterly market recaps and outlooks covering ERCOT and PJM fundamentals.
  • Identify opportunities to improve or automate existing analytics and reporting processes and build the tools to implement them.
  • Partner with Commercial Markets leadership and internal teams to align market commentary and analysis with broader company messaging.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in quantitative field (Finance, Economics, Statistics, or related), or equivalent experience.
  • Comfort working with data in Excel, with a willingness to develop skills in SQL, Python, and Tableau on the job.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present analysis clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • High attention to detail, particularly in customer-facing materials.
  • Genuine interest in power and natural gas markets, and a desire to build deep market expertise over time.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of ERCOT and/or PJM power market structure, natural gas fundamentals, and forward curve marking.
  • Prior experience in energy trading, risk management, or market analytics.
  • Experience producing recurring market commentary or research publications.
  • Comfort using AI tools to support drafting market summaries, building presentations, and analyzing data.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Tableau, and/or Python, including experience pulling and managing data from relational databases (PostgreSQL and/or Databricks/Athena).
  • Experience building or maintaining automated data pipelines (Python, Databricks, AWS).
  • Familiarity with ancillary services markets, 4CP, and related ERCOT-specific market mechanics.
