Nationwide Financial has an open Test Automation Developer role. This Software Engineer Test Automation role will work a hybrid schedule with 2 days in the office (Monday and Tuesday) per week at our Columbus, OH office.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop and maintain automated UI and API test solutions using Playwright or comparable modern automation frameworks (e.g., Cypress, Selenium, WebdriverIO or TestCafe) with JavaScript/TypeScript.
  • Build and enhance reusable automation frameworks and regression suites that improve software quality, release confidence and delivery speed.
  • Partner with engineering, product and platform teams to define test strategies, validate platform capabilities and ensure quality throughout the software delivery lifecycle.
  • Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines by implementing automated execution, reporting and quality gates.
  • Improve automation reliability by reducing flaky tests, optimizing test coverage and enhancing regression effectiveness.
  • Validate REST APIs, application integrations and end-to-end workflows across distributed platform services.
  • Contribute to shared automation standards, engineering practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage assigned work while proactively identifying risks, dependencies and quality concerns.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Playwright is preferred. Candidates with strong experience using modern automation frameworks such as Cypress, Selenium, WebdriverIO or TestCafe, along with demonstrated JavaScript/TypeScript proficiency and the ability to quickly adopt Playwright, are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience developing and maintaining automated UI and API test frameworks.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into Azure DevOps or other CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience testing RESTful APIs and modern web applications in Agile and DevSecOps environments.
  • Experience collaborating across engineering, product and platform teams to deliver high-quality software.

Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree.
Experience: Two or more years of analysis and technology experience.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle moderately sophisticated business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager's leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
