Job description

Job Summary

With limited supervision the Development Engineer provides early-stage deliverables to support commercial solar electric system project development. They will execute engineering and technical tasks of assigned projects primarily regarding early-stage site evaluation, early-stage design development and optimize the design based on various project specific parameters. The Development Engineer will identify the most appropriate technical and material solutions for each project and perform early-stage design calculations for project scoping and feasibility analysis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Provide technical support to Commercial Sales and Finance for technical proposals and customer presentations.

· Coordinates with Commercial Sales to identify engineering deliverables required for early-stage project development.

· Works as a primary engineering contact interfacing with Business Development.

· Preliminary design of early-stage projects which includes PV1s, energy production modeling (PVsyst), and single line electrical drawings.

· Performs due diligence and critical issues analysis of projects.

· Perform electricity tariff analysis, electricity bill analysis, and load versus energy generation analysis.

· Prepares engineering calculations, estimates, statistics, and early-stage designs.

· Contributes to the development of Preliminary Engineering Plans and designs.

· Review 3rd part engineering documentation to create Due Diligence reports.

· Conduct detailed site evaluations for targeted projects, including due diligence review, proposal development and pre-engineering support to Sales, Finance and Construction.

· Performs peer-reviews on engineering deliverables.

· Provide support to other engineering roles (Development, Design, or Project) and other departments within SSI as directed.

· Works with the engineering manager to develop, revise, or improve Standard Operating Procedures which pertain to their job function.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET Accredited institution, (i.e., BSEE, BSME, BSCE, BSChE) – Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or Renewable Energy Engineering degrees are preferred.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills are required.

· 2-5 years minimum engineering experience; minimum of one year of large-scale solar PV engineering experience.

· Understanding and working familiarity with current AutoCAD, PVsyst, HelioScope, Google Sketch-up, PVcase and Microsoft Excel Working knowledge of engineering software and systems.

· Organized with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple development projects.

· Knowledge of relevant codes, such as IBC, NEC, etc. is preferred.

· Customers and the public

· Engineering team

· Business Development and Finance team

· All employees, including Senior and Executive Management

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Conducts work in both a field-type environment and in a professional office setting with local travel to jobsites to conduct inspections. Physical working conditions may involve the following:

· Lifting up-to 20 pounds.

· Extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, reaching, and/or bending.

· Extended periods of reading fine print on a computer or in paper-based format.

NON-PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Routine aspects of this position may require the following non-physical demands:

· Analytical and logical reasoning.

POTENTIAL HAZARDS:

· Trips, slips and/or falls while on customer property.

· Chemical abrasives are used in office and kitchen cleaning.

· Lifting items up to 20 pounds in weight.
