Pushback Operator information

What is the difference between Pushback Operator vs Forklift Operator?

AspectPushback OperatorForklift Operator
CredentialsTypically requires a valid driver’s license and safety trainingRequires forklift certification and safety training
Work EnvironmentAirport ground operations, aircraft pushbackWarehouses, manufacturing plants, shipping docks
Industry UsageAirline and airport logisticsLogistics, manufacturing, retail warehouses
Common TasksGuiding aircraft during pushback, safety checksMoving pallets, loading/unloading goods

While both roles involve vehicle operation and safety protocols, Pushback Operators focus on aircraft ground handling at airports, whereas Forklift Operators handle material movement within warehouses and industrial settings. Understanding these differences helps clarify job expectations and required skills in logistics and transportation industries.

How much does a pushback driver make?

A pushback operator typically earns between $15 and $25 per hour, with annual salaries ranging from approximately $30,000 to $50,000 depending on experience, location, and employer. The role often requires operating specialized airport ground support equipment and may involve shift work, including nights and weekends.

What is a push back operator job description?

A push back operator is responsible for maneuvering aircraft on the ground using specialized equipment to push or pull aircraft into parking positions or along the tarmac. They typically operate pushback tractors, follow safety protocols, and communicate with ground crew and pilots to ensure efficient aircraft movement. This role requires attention to safety, communication skills, and often certification in ground handling procedures.

What are Pushback Operators?

Pushback Operators are trained ground crew members at airports responsible for safely moving aircraft backwards away from the gate using specialized vehicles called pushback tractors or tugs. They play a critical role in ensuring that planes can depart safely without using their own engines, which helps prevent accidents and damage on the ramp. Pushback Operators must communicate closely with pilots and ground control to coordinate movements and follow strict safety procedures. Their work is essential to efficient airport operations and the safe handling of aircraft on the ground.

What job makes $10,000 a month without a degree?

A pushback operator can potentially earn $10,000 a month through experience and overtime, especially in industries like manufacturing or logistics that require operating heavy machinery. High-paying roles in sales, real estate, or skilled trades may also reach this income level without a formal degree, often relying on skills, certifications, and performance. However, such earnings are typically associated with specialized skills, experience, or commission-based pay structures.

What are some common challenges faced by Pushback Operators during aircraft towing operations?

Pushback Operators often encounter challenges such as coordinating closely with ground crew and flight deck personnel to ensure clear communication, especially in busy or low-visibility conditions. Navigating tight spaces on the ramp while adhering to strict safety protocols requires constant attention and precision. Additionally, operators must be prepared to handle unexpected mechanical issues with towing equipment and adapt to rapidly changing weather conditions, all while minimizing turnaround times to keep flight schedules on track.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Pushback Operator, and why are they important?

To excel as a Pushback Operator, you need a valid driver's license, knowledge of ground handling procedures, and familiarity with airport safety regulations. Experience with specialized ground support equipment, such as tugs and tow bars, and certifications like an Airport Movement Area Access permit are typically required. Strong attention to detail, situational awareness, and effective communication help ensure safe and efficient aircraft movements. These skills and qualifications are vital for preventing accidents, minimizing delays, and maintaining operational safety on the airfield.

What jobs pay 500,000 a year in the US?

Job description

Who We Are
Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion.
Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn't to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business's system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life's work.
About the Role
Notion is seeing a massive services layer emerge on top of the product-consultants and agencies building workflows, implementations, and repeatable "operating systems" for customers. Partner-involved commercial deals have scaled to ~40+ active at a time; we need a dedicated operator to turn this into a repeatable co-sell channel without breaking quality. This isn't a brand-new revenue pillar-we already have partner pull-but we're adding rigor and scale as the business grows (operating cadence, clean handoffs, and a quality bar that holds under volume). You'll co-sell with AEs at commercial + mid-market pace and build partner accountability loops that make partner-sourced pipeline reliable. This role is based in San Francisco or New York City. We work from our offices on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays (our Anchor Days).
What You'll Achieve
  • Build a clean operating cadence with Sales + partners (pipeline reviews, deal triage, and tight follow-through) across ~40+ active partner-involved deals; commercial + mid-market deal cycles are typically ~1-5 months.
  • Co-sell with AEs to convert partner-influenced demand into closed-won outcomes: the right partner, the right scope, the right expectations-no "handshake and hope."
  • Activate a focused starting portfolio of top NAMER consultants/agencies with clear onboarding, enablement, and first wins in-flight.
  • Enforce a delivery quality bar without slowing deals (guardrails, fast QA loops, and fewer preventable escalations).
  • Make partner-sourced pipeline a reliable, forecastable channel by building repeatable co-sell motions that scale beyond 1:1 heroics.

Skills You'll Need to Bring
  • Experience partnering closely with AEs-ideally in a quota-carrying role (or equivalent ownership of pipeline and close).
  • Proven ownership of partner-sourced pipeline: sourcing/influencing deals, moving opportunities forward, and staying accountable through closed-won.
  • Ability to give kind, direct pushback to both partners and reps, protecting customer outcomes and setting clear expectations.
  • Strong operator-builder instincts: you turn ambiguity into an operating plan, ship systems, instrument, learn, and iterate.
  • Experience with services ecosystems (consultants, agencies, SIs) and a clear POV on how services teams productize delivery.

Notion is committed to providing highly competitive cash compensation, equity, and benefits. The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role's scope and complexity, and the candidate's experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco or New York City, the estimated base salary range for this role is $185,000 - $220,00 per year.
By clicking "Submit Application", I understand and agree that Notion and its affiliates and subsidiaries will collect and process my information in accordance with Notion's Global Recruiting Privacy Policy and NYLL 144.

A Note on AI
You don't need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement - when that's the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don't treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.
