Job description

What does it mean to be a part of the Receiving team?
In these essential roles, you will work directly with the inventory department, Supervisors and leads to verify quantities of product received at the distribution centers. These roles have strong understanding of products that we carry, all receiving/loading procedures and back stock. This team ensures that products are in the proper staging locations so we can efficiently receive and load trucks with product accurately while maintaining a clean and safe work area. In this position, you will be using electronic equipment to scan and record required information to ensure inventory accuracy.

Essential Functions:
  • Verifies quantities of product received against the packing slip/purchase order.

  • Checks and reports any damage found due to refrigeration, travel or handling by inbound freight company.

  • Builds steady and secure pallets to be put into back stock reserves. Wraps pallets whenever necessary.

  • Ensures that all labeling of product and pallets are accurate for put-away in proper pick slot or back stock location.

  • Keeps area clean and debris out of work area; ensures a safe working environment.

  • Inspects assigned jack for safety issues. Operates all equipment in a safe and efficient manner.

  • Perform duties in accordance with Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Safe Quality Food (SQF) policies and procedures, as appropriate for location

Knowledge Required:
  • Understanding of Safety guidelines

Experience Required:
  • Warehouse/Operations preferred but not required.

  • Good judgment is required for this position as there may be times when direct supervision may not be immediately available.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Understand and properly follow all receiving procedures, RF systems.

  • Understand all paperwork related to receiving including how to read and use Purchase Order (PO) receivers, Bills of lading, and packing lists.

  • Have an understanding of procedures in other areas of the warehouse for a more global understanding of all processes.

  • Ability to work overtime as needed.

Work Environment:
Onsite Role: This position requires the associate to perform all duties at one of our UNFI locations, such as a distribution center or office.
Physical Requirements & Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and to stand, walk, bend, stoop, twist, and turn frequently.

  • Exposure to temperatures ranging from -20 degrees below zero to 35 degrees

  • Fahrenheit in Perishable Operation and 37 degrees to 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Grocery Operation.

  • Ability to do repetitious arm, wrist, and hand movements required for maintenance and service procedures.

  • Must be able to work with hands and arms overhead, and to work in or under the equipment.

  • Requires manual dexterity, overall coordination, and good balance to work both at ground level and in high places to perform job duties. Ability to operate work-related equipment.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
