Job description

Summary of Position

This position is responsible for overseeing the on-going operations of the Purchasing Team. The Purchasing Manager will use expertise in planning and supply chain optimization to ensure the organization meets its objectives in relation to in-stock levels, inventory turns, GMROI, customer backorders, and on-hand inventory targets. This person will be responsible for assisting the company in effectively and efficiently managing its inventory across all channels in the Company.

major areas of accountability
  • Lead purchasing team to ensure achievement of key inventory metrics (e.g., in-stock rates, backorders, etc.) and inventory on-hand targets.
  • Lead inventory management efforts for Fulfilled by Amazon (i.e., FMA) skus.
  • Develop a high-performing team focused on achieving company objectives.
  • Execute planned purchase orders on small subset of Company Vendors.
  • Oversee development, execution and maintenance of Purchasing Department SOP’s and Buyer Training regimen.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives that improve inventory quality and productivity, improve efficiency of operations from sku forecasting through customer receipt, and support dynamic changes in market conditions.
  • Collaborate with other departments to identify opportunities for more effective inventory management.
  • Develop strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the acquisition of accurate, relevant, and timely information to assist in optimized inventory management.
  • Prepare, submit, and present periodic reports as established by leadership to identify purchasing opportunities or areas of concern.

  • Self-driven, adaptable, and resourceful; able to work with limited supervision.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Engineering, or related field preferred
  • 3-5+ years of experience in demand planning, buying, and inventory management.
  • 3-5+ years of experience in managing teams with a minimum of 3 years in managing demand planning/buying teams.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel.  Basic Excel Macro/VBA skills a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft AX 2009, 2012, or Dynamics 365 a plus
  • Proficiency in R and Tableau a plus
  • CPPO, Certified Purchasing Manager, Certified Contract Negotiator, CPPB, or other advanced certification in procurement or contract administration a plus.
