Job description

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Buyer Manager reports to the Assistant Director of Purchasing and is responsible for all sourcing, procurement, supplier management, and Buyer personnel activities. Major objectives include ensuring timely procurement of materials, supplier performance, cost management, and support of project schedules.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide leadership and direct supervision of Buyers, including goal setting and tracking.
  • Monitor and drive performance against procurement goals and KPIs.
  • Forecast and implement short and long‑term resources necessary to support service and operations teams.
  • Utilize and provide training on program tools and databases to facilitate department goals.
  • Oversee RFQ, quotation, and purchase order processes.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Product Management, Planning, Manufacturing, and Project teams to determine priorities and delivery scheduling for the procurement phase of a project.
  • Drive procurement process improvements and standardization.
  • Support supplier diversification and risk mitigation efforts.
  • Facilitate the resolution of supplier contract and commercial issues.
  • Work with Accounting to resolve supplier payment issues.
  • Support Strategic Sourcing Managers in supplier qualification, sourcing strategy development, contract negotiations, and supplier performance management.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by TAS.
JOB SKILLS:
  • Strong knowledge and experience with ERP/MRP systems.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Lean concepts and tools.
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels of the business.
  • PC proficiency including Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
  • Ability to build collaborative working relationships.
  • Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving capabilities.
  • Ability to initiate action and drive accountability.
  • Commitment to high work standards, personal accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Strong understanding of strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, and procurement planning.
EDUCATION & TRAINING:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Extensive relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5 years’ Purchasing/Procurement experience in a manufacturing environment with at least 2 years’ experience as a Buyer.
  • 2 years leadership experience managing procurement or supply chain personnel.
  • Experience in engineer-to-order or make-to-order manufacturing environments.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5+ years procurement leadership experience with direct people management responsibility.
  • Lean practitioner experience.
  • ISO-certified manufacturing experience.
  • APICS, CPM, or CPSM certification.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Position is at least 80% to 95% at a desk working with computer. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
