Purchasing Inventory Control Coordinator information

What does a purchasing inventory control coordinator do?

A Purchasing Inventory Control Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the procurement of materials and supplies, as well as maintaining optimal inventory levels for an organization. They work closely with vendors, track inventory usage, process purchase orders, and ensure that inventory records are accurate and up to date. Their goal is to prevent shortages or overstock situations and to support efficient operations by making sure the right products are available when needed.

How does a purchasing inventory control coordinator typically collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth operations?

A Purchasing Inventory Control Coordinator works closely with multiple departments, including production, sales, and finance, to maintain optimal inventory levels and ensure timely procurement of materials. This role often involves regular meetings with department leads to forecast demand, monitor stock levels, and address any supply chain issues. Effective communication and coordination are essential, as the coordinator must balance inventory costs with production needs while minimizing delays or stockouts. Building strong interdepartmental relationships is key to success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a purchasing inventory control coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Purchasing Inventory Control Coordinator, you need strong analytical skills, knowledge of supply chain principles, and typically a degree in business, logistics, or a related field. Experience with inventory management software (such as SAP or Oracle), procurement systems, and possibly certification like APICS CPIM is highly beneficial. Attention to detail, organizational abilities, and effective communication are vital soft skills for managing vendor relationships and ensuring inventory accuracy. These skills and qualifications are crucial to maintain optimal inventory levels, reduce costs, and support smooth operations within the organization.

What is the difference between Purchasing Inventory Control Coordinator vs Inventory Clerk?

Job description

Inventory Control Coordinator

Austin, Texas, United States

About the Job

Inventory Control Coordinator

Pay: $23-$28 per hour Location: Austin, TX (In person) Department: Operations / Warehouse Reports To: Warehouse Manager / Operations Lead

About Us

Pro Coffee Gear is a rapidly growing coffee equipment e-commerce company based on our 20-acre ranch in Austin, Texas. We aim to make it easy for our clients to equip their business or hobby with high-quality coffee equipment while spending less. On the client side, we do this by pairing delightful online purchase experiences with expert 1-1 consultations. On the operations side, we've built deep experience across the equipment spectrum, and a proprietary process for refurbishing espresso machines. We don't simply move boxes. We aspire to be the foremost technical experts in coffee equipment and to leverage that expertise to help our clients succeed for the long-term. We support this mission with continual training, outstanding after-sales support, and one of the largest equipment and parts selections in the country. We're looking forward to having you grow with us!

Our Culture

Our warehouse team has a relaxed but professional culture. We work hard but enjoy and have fun at work. We're also a curious bunch who are fascinated by different coffee-making equipment, their nuances across brands, and how they make coffee. We also genuinely enjoy coffee and the process of helping our clients make it. On the operational side, we take pride in delivering high-quality products and identifying any potential issue a client might face before it happens.

We are honest and ruthless about finding the root causes of problems when they occur and revise our system design to minimize the chance that they will happen again. If something doesn't go according to plan, we unpack what happened and learn from it - no matter how small the issue may be. We embrace problems as learning opportunities we can use to grow.

We strive to disassociate the person from the problem, which helps us be high performers without the stress typically associated with "making a mistake". Because we observe and debug small problems that come up before they become big problems, we rarely encounter after-sales issues. We embrace the small stresses associated with proactively avoiding major issues. This helps us avoid time-consuming and emotionally laborious "firefighting" exercises. It also allows us to be generous with our time when things don't go as planned.

About the Role

We are looking for an Inventory Control Coordinator to be the backbone of our warehouse accuracy and efficiency. As we continue to scale, this role will be critical in maintaining organized, accurate, and efficient warehouse operations. • Conduct routine cycle counts and assist with full physical inventories
  • Investigate and reconcile inventory variances; implement corrective actions

Warehouse Organization & Optimization

  • Keep shelves, bins, aisles, and staging zones clean and well-organized
  • Continuously evaluate layout, bin allocation, and space usage
  • Recommend and implement improvements to racking, labeling, workflows, and SOPs
  • Help design scalable processes as order volume and SKU count increase

  • Support manufacturing/renewal workflows by staging components and tracking WIP inventory
  • Work with operations on system updates, audits, and process improvements

Advancement opportunities: Depending on fit, a successful candidate may transition to a Warehouse Manager, Operations Lead, or other senior operational role.

Qualifications

  • 25 years of experience in warehouse operations, inventory control, or logistics
  • Strong understanding of receiving, cycle counting, and inventory best practices
  • Experience with WMS/IMS systems; Shopify, ERP, or manufacturing workflows a plus
  • Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in a warehouse environment
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of owning processes end-to-end
  • Leadership potential with the ability to grow into a Warehouse Manager role
